Six years after showing off the concept truck Hyundai has finally revealed the 2022 Santa Cruz!

The Santa Cruz aims to appeal to people that are looking for pickup truck-like storage but want something that's easy to drive in the city.

Here's what you need to know about the new Santa Cruz!

1. Don't call it a pickup truck

Hyundai has been adamant to not call the Santa Cruz a pickup truck. Instead it is what they call a Sport Adventure Vehicle that is a mixture of a SUV, truck and crossover.

2. Production begins in June

Hyundai announced that Santa Cruz Production will begin in June 2021 at their plant in Montgomery, Alabama. The addition of the Santa Cruz to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama's production is expected to add an estimated 1,200 jobs in the area.

3. Reservations will open late April & sales will start Summer 2021

With production starting in June Hyundai says the Santa Cruz will go on sale this summer. But they haven't specified when exactly it will begin.

Until then Hyundai is creating an early reservation system for the U.S.-market Santa Cruz that will open in late April at Hyundai Cars, Sedans, SUVs, Compacts, and Luxury | Hyundai.


4. You can choose between two powertrain options

The Santa Cruz will have to available powertrain options to choose from. It comes standard with a 2.5L in-line four-cylinder engine with an estimated 190+ horsepower and 180+ lb.-ft. of torque. It's partnered with a an eight-speed hydraulic automatic transmission.

The Santa Cruz can also come with an optional a 2.5L direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an estimated 275+ horsepower and 310+ lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is partnered with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The eight-speed DCT comes with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Both models will offer HTRAC® all-wheel drive capability.

5. It's rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds

How much you want to tow in the Santa Cruz will depend on which powertrain option you go with.

If you decide to go with the standard non turbo 2.5L engine you can tow up to 3,500 pounds and if you go with the turbocharged 2.5L engine you'll be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

6. The Santa Cruz has a small bed compared to the competition

The Santa Cruz's bed can range between 48.4 and 52.1 inches (4 feet and 4.3 feet long). When you look at how it compares its competitors like the Honda Ridgeline (63.6 inches), Toyota Tacoma (60.4 inches), and Nissan Frontier (59.4 inches), it's a noticeable difference.

The Santa Cruz makes up for this with an in-floor trunk, but Hyundai hasn't said how big it is yet.

7. It's also small compared to the competition

When you look at the Santa Cruz's overall dimensions compared to some of the other small pickups on the market, it makes sense why Hyundai wants to refer to it as a Sport Adventure Vehicle.

8. There are a bunch of standard and optional safety features available

The Santa Cruz comes standard with safety features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCCA) with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

If you're looking for more features you can add things like Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), Surround View Monitor (SVM), and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)

9. The Santa Cruz's interior is loaded with technology

To help make your commute easier the Santa Cruz has plenty of technology options. The Santa Cruz offers a standard eight-inch color touchscreen that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless pairing automatically connects an Android or Apple smartphone so you don't need to reach for a phone.

Santa Cruz offers a Digital Key supported by a dedicated smartphone app that can control selected vehicle systems remotely like locking and unlocking the doors and starting the engine.

The Santa Cruz navigation system offers split-screen functionality and it also offers an eight-speaker Bose Premium sound system.

10. It has Hyundai Complimentary Maintenance and a 10-year warranty

The Santa Cruz Hyundai has you covered as it has their 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, 7-year anti-perforation warranty.

It also comes with Hyundai's Complimentary Maintenance which includes 3 years/36,000 miles of normal oil changes and tire rotations.
