A Disaster

The basic problem is there are so many recalls across the board of Hyundai's, the service departments are tired of getting paid less.

In the last two months. I took it in for a recall related to the cooling system. It took weeks to address the problem. The local dealer will not provide a rental, which they should under the warranty, until they verify the problem is covered by the warranty. So, for 4 days or longer you have no rental.

So, they give me back the vehicle after more than week, and now a hose is leaking. They did not care. Now I am in the hospital for more than a month, so they see no rush on the broken radiator hose.
In fact, they held my truck past the time of the repair because my service agent was out of the office.

Then my driver who is insured receives the truck and notices the steering wheel shakes. It is the front universal.
Now they want me to bring it back again, where it will sit for 4 days waiting to be checked out, while I am denied a rental.

This endless cycle of repairs has been going on since the first month. The truck seems to stall while driving on the highway. It pulls. The display screens will not stay set. Something as simple as the clock cannot be set. It will change the second you turn off the engine. The tire pressure light is on all the time.

Several months ago, I went to a dealer in San Antonio for a warranty issue on the tire. I had a 5-hour trip back to Brownsville. They refused to fix the issue. They said I had to take it too the dealer where I bought it. I had my portable air gun, and every hour had to put air in the tire.

I am done. I have the skills to sue, so I will. The dealers are losing money on all the recalls, and this is impacting overall servicing of their vehicles which are in need constant service.

Because hyundai isn't known for the dirtiest and sorriest service departments nor for recalling what.....75% of their entire fleet over the past 10 or 15 years.

But maybe your right. Maybe There are people who have absolutely nothing better to do than jump on a forum for a Hyundai car (not over reaching and jumping on a car that they could brag about like a Porsche or at least a corvette...) that they don't even own and pretend said car they dont own broke down. They get no money from it. ... so why? To smear the sterling reputation of probably the most smeared car brand? (and car brand country except maybe Yugoslavia)

And then to do so to supposedly prop up a Ford Maverick.... the cheapest ford Mexico could make.... One of the cheapest vehicles made... idk.

Given there is no monetary gain. No prestige award for owning neither a Hyundai nor a Maverick. On a forum that gets a total of about 2 posts a day.... and those are "what oil" or "what tires will fit" I just don't get it.

Not an undercover ford ceo trying to steal sales. The Maverick is still sold out today and according to my last shareholder email Maverick sales are up 4% quarterly. Not what shareholders want to hear i assure you.... lol. F150 sales down. Lost to rav 4 last year, first time in 40 years f150 wasn't the best seller. Now lightning, mach e, transit, and Maverick sales are up.....yay. lol. Low or no margin, low production vehicles we don't care about (all but the transit). Every quarter the first question voted on by shareholders is "why not increase Maverick production and maybe even move it stateside since Maverick is sold out and there are acres of unsold F150 setting around".

Op has 1 post though so your probably right. But I don't get it. I fail to see any gain for anyone to troll an all but dead forum. But if nothing else it gets money for the forum via post count.

In my 30 plus years of buying cars, I've owned Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans and Fords (in addition to Hyundais). I will never ever again buy a Honda, Nissan, or Ford. The experience I had with their dealers was horrific, very slick and untrustworthy. Great big shiny waiting areas and lobbys. But they mark up the bill ever single time, and I never ever felt that I was getting an honest answer.

The Toyota dealership was good, but the value proposition of their cars isn't great. You are buying the brand and they know it, so they don't pack in any extras.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the only car I've ever owned that caused me to want to buy another Hyundai, which I did. I got my 18 year old son an Elantra. The tech that gets packed into even a bottom trim model is fantastic. I love a good value and a good deal.

One of my richer friends questioned me about buying a Hyundai and why would I trust the brand. They bought some huge Chevy suv at the same time. That thing had so many problems they sold it in less than 3 years and got a Range Rover instead. And now, they are dealing with problems with their brand new Range Rover.

and this is the reason why sometimes buying the most expensive things will not be worth it in the long run. Yes the warranty is nice and should cover a lot, but just a big headache having to take it into the shop so often

Oh, I don't know about the most smeared brand.. I'd give that award to Tesla. Didn't they recall 100% of cybertrucks last year?

If you gave me a choice between a brand new cybertruck or a brand new base model Elantra. I'm picking the Elantra 100 times out of 100.
Yeah 100% of one model. While their others are known for reliability. Hyundai has never been and has recalled pretty much every engine made over 15 years, not to mention a good portion of transmissions and 3.5 million for fire risk. Lol

Im seeing a lot more cyber trucks though. I saw one today pulling into a touchless car wash. My first thought was "oh **** no...." lol.

I rode in my buddies. They are crazy fast for a dump truck weight vehicle. He flipped his for a profit. Didn't keep it long. I haven't asked if he had any issues. I know he had an iou from Elon for something. Wheel centers or something like that.

The full size chevy suvs have made the top ten vehicles for % registered over 200k miles many times over the last 30 years. No Hyundai has even been on the list. Ever. My old denali is sitting on 350k. I see them all the time over 300k at the shop. I'm a Ford man but the best suv for reliability was the 5.3/6.0/8.1 yukon/tahoe/suburban. Even Toyota (who has owned 3/4 of that list for 25 years...) hasn't really had a full size to match the big GM. Excursion sure hasn't since they ditched the v10 and v8 and powerstroke and went to the twin turbo 6.

Anyone who bought a range didn't read up on anything at all. They are nice but not known for reliable in general and fixing them is ridiculous. Any vehicle can be a lemon though. We had one of those super reliable GMs that was so bad they just gave us a new one a year newer. Same motor. Same trans. Same color even. Never had an issue in 250k miles and we sold it. Still on the road today.

100%, open a case with HMA customer support. The dealerships are required to respond to these cases. (y)

I traded in my Mercedez Benz GLK350 4 matic for my 2022 Santa Cruz Limited. 🛻

Question: have I had any problems with my SantaCruz…Yes (2) @ 35,000 the DCT started acting up and ultimately had to be replaced - No I was not happy about that, I also had the gas door fail shut, annoying but not serious.
The Mercedes GLK350 ( in my 10 years of ownership ) had outside of warranty, the Electronic Transmission Control computer fail - goes into limp home mode, cost: $3500, the Electronic Fuel injection master computer fail - won’t idle or accelerate, cost: $4500, I also had all 4 engine mounts wear out - even though only drove it on very light off roading on back roads, cost: $850 each. The 10,000 mile service checks ( Service A and service B ) cost: $650 & $950 each. *if they didn't find anything else needing attention.

I have had (1) service outside of warranty now on my 22’ Santa Cruz which included -air filters, injection service, synthetic oil and tire rotation for $225. So are Hyundai‘s perfect? No, but neither are any of the other vehicle brands, so it’s comes down to how much do you care to spend on any Brand vs dealing with any possible issues that may come up?

Mercedes did have really nice waiting rooms with snacks as I paid over a thousand dollars every time I came in…😎

I’ve owned a total of 5 Hyundais since 2011. Never had a serious issue with ANY of them. Recalls were handled when they arose, and I didn’t know about them until I got a letter. Dealer I go to is top notch, always does a great job, except the one time they left a mounting bolt off a brake caliper causing it to rattle. They flat-bedded the car back to the dealership and fixed it - no charge. The service manager also apologized profusely.

Oh and I just traded my 22 SC SEL for a 25 SC Activity in Hampton Gray. The new dash is gorgeous, adaptive cruise control is standard, and I can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow!

What tires did you put on your SC?

We're from Maryland and when I hit 40k miles with the OEM in Seattle I bought 75k mile All Terrain tire from Les Schwab before entering British Columbia on our way to Alaska. I've only got about 30k miles left before I need new tires. Probably less because we're heading to Nova Scotia this summer.

I've read very little in this thread related to Hyundai and everything related to specific Hyundai dealerships.

I would highly recommend reaching out to Hyundai America with this feedback about a particular dealership because they are the ones who will put pressure on the dealership if the dealership is hurting their brand. There are many, many shady and sketchy dealerships out there (and even more service managers/advisors that will cut corners or upsell you useless services).

Keep in mind, dealerships are not Hyundai, they are separate businesses allowed to sell Hyundai vehicles, similar to a McDonalds franchise. Feedback should go to Hyundai America, and then find a different dealership (not always easy I know).

I will also add that when I bough the SC and the Elantra, the sales and finance reps emphasized that I was going to get a survey from Hyundai and if I couldn't give them a perfect score on each question, to let them address any of my concerns up front so I could give them top scores. They were definitely concerned about how I was going to score them on the survey. They said the leadership pays close attention to the results.

I know it's big brother-ish, but I sort of like when they know they have to not be a dIckwad or else the survey will reflect it. I think it keeps them honest. Same with the service department. They are always quick to say "if there is anything I need to improve, please let me know" or something to that effect.
