Accident. Waiting on Insurance

One car accident, wiife hit a tree just next to the rural roadway.

The tow driver said this looked repairable. Any thoughts? I absolutely cannot get my mind around this being repaired and not totaled. Insurance has asked it be towed to a repair facility for assessment.

Id bet its totaled. Pretty much if the airbags and pretension devices activate its totaled.

Yikes! Wife is ok I hope? That looks pretty bad, IMO…..$20-25k+ or maybe totaled?
Three airbags deployed. Wife is fine. She wasn’t driving fast but something distracted her. Tree toppled!!

I’ll follow up but yeah this “repairable” stuff has me so, so confused. But nothing definite yet.

That doesn't look repairable. If they do repair it, I would sell it after that. Glad to see your wife is good.
Glad your wife is okay, albeit probably fairly shook up about the whole thing. It seems like the "safety" systems would have prevented her from clipping the tree. but maybe objects have to be more in the in the line of sight of the front of the vehicle and not off to the side. Sorry this happened and it does look totaled.

Air bags deployed. It's totalled.
I would be interested to know if its totaled or not.... lets hear what the insurance company has to say...
100% Thats definitely totalled. You look at a car wrong now and insurance totals it out. They dont want to deal with the hassle of rental reimbursements... comeback repairs and noises rattles wiring issues etc etc etc after the "repairs" 99% of dealers do.
Yikes that looks bad but the important part is your wife is OK. Having recently experienced a cost to repair a vehicle and how outrageous the pricing can be, I'll vote that this is a total loss. You probably would want that anyway with the airbags deployed. That would look real bad on a carfax. Remember that insurance will owe you what the retail value of the car was 1 second before the accident.......minus any deductibles and, maybe, salvage value.
I had damage to the same location on mine, but didn't crumple as much. Airbags went off, tensioners needed replaced as well as sensors everywhere. Did not total it. Fixed it with a repair shop that is Hyundai certified that is line with my warranty. You can't even tell it happened. They replaced the same panels as yours plus all of the front grill and internal pieces. Airbags going off doesn't matter. Glad she's OK! Truck took the impact well and protected her, just like it was supposed to.

Not true. Depends on value vs. repair costs.

maybe dumb question? but why did the auto crash "deal" not stop it? my base SE has stopped itself twice- both times at "dump transfer station" pulling out and the place is full of Hudge white birds (Florida) they walked out in front of me and both times the santa cruz stopped on its own? its also tried to stop me pulling out of my driveway a few times sensing. a car coming close by?

That's a very good question......Hope it gets answered.....
I am thinking maybe the tree was off to the side and the camera did not see it is my thinking.

the tree is pretty dang close to the side of the road. it was a matter of time before someone hit it. Glad your wife is okay.

My vote is they total it. I think there maybe some firewall damage as the windshield is cracked in several spots. (perhaps the hood did that? )

aloha mike

doesn't take much to get distract anymore. Just the infotainment screen alone is enough to distract. Look down for 3-5 seconds and...BAM...huh? what just happened?
Airbags going off doesn't matter.

Very much matters. At 1k each and several hundred for clockspring, sensors and pretensioners usually runs the cost up enough to total a car.

As far as them going off, it doesn't automatically total anything but the cost is why it matters.

If that were my car I'd fight to have it totaled. I put cars on a lift every day, even if you can't tell by looking that it's wrecked I probably can. And its on the carfax from then on most likely too. Amd many times a car looks good after the repair but in 5 years its painfully obvious that work was done.

You don't always get your way either. Lol . BUT if it's close to a total loss and you complain then they often relent. Just not always.

Airbags broke the windshield, happens every time. Looks pretty significant. Main thing your wife is OK. I’m sure you’re pissed at her, but it’s just a car and that’s why you have insurance. Now you can get a 23. Your wife, she’s unreplaceable.
