Accident. Waiting on Insurance

One car accident, wiife hit a tree just next to the rural roadway.

The tow driver said this looked repairable. Any thoughts? I absolutely cannot get my mind around this being repaired and not totaled. Insurance has asked it be towed to a repair facility for assessment.

You won't be able to get parts. Automatic total.
That’s what I thought too. I should know more today.
Oh no... So sorry about that. I hope the wife is ok?
Wife is fine, and I’m not mad at her, truly. She does tend to look all around when she drives, though. Lol
I'm guessing we will see it for sale at Autosavvy in a few months :)

lets hear what the insurance company has to say...
Body damage is easy fix. I would be worried about damage to your frame based on the way the front is crunched back into the wheel. If your frame is bent, insurance will most likely total it. Be sure the shop gets it on a lift to see.
Its only totaled if repairs costs are higher than value, or so. At least here in Hawaii. They will decide once they get a quote from garage... but it sure looks bad. Then again, every car wreck can be repaired or restored.

Travelers is taking their sweet time. They have some arrangement with a chain of repair shops with in house adjusters. They are “negotiating’ over bottom line but off record was told (by shop) it would cost too much to repair. Now Travelers has to confirm.

Inflation in the used vehicle market makes these calculations harder than before.

From what I've seen the past couple years its easier now than ever. Ive seen vehicles totaled that would have been fixed 4 years ago without any thought to it.

Maybe its getting back to normal though. Idk.

High probability of being totaled. Airbags alone will be 3K or more each to replace.

Yes the wait is annoying and it certainly seems as though Travelers has been doing everything they can to avoid the outcome of a totaled car. Meanwhile there’s one new limited on the lot at my local dealer…

I guess ...just have to wait and see..
I went by the collision center to try to get a handle on what’s up. There’s a written estimate that they are waiting to get into the “system.” It’s for 27,300. Looking at the line items that seems low. I wonder what the auction value of the vehicle is (as-is). Does anyone know where I look to get a loose idea from cars that went to auction after a wreck? Sold-at-auction cars I mean.

Something I wish I knew at the time my local agent suggested I could drop it was, that having rental car coverage on your auto insurance is a strong incentive for your company to total a car that’s borderline.

Ok, finally, they got it into their system and deemed it totaled. Apparently it was a close call which surprises me based on the damage. BUT, I’ll get a check and be on my way. Already have the identical replacement spoken for (and negotiated for) at the local guys.
