Hyundai’s New Pickup Aims Squarely at Tacoma and Ranger
Hyundai has confirmed it’s building a body-on-frame mid-size pickup for the US market, a move that signals the Korean automaker’s most serious challenge yet to the likes of the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado.
The announcement, paired with news of tariff-driven production changes, shows Hyundai recalibrating its US strategy in one of the most competitive segments of the auto industry.
The pickup, expected before the end of the decade, will be the brand’s first traditional truck. Unlike the Santa Cruz, which rides on a unibody platform and leans toward lifestyle buyers, Hyundai says the new model will deliver the durability and towing capacity US truck buyers expect.

Given the sales of the SC this seems like a bad decision... or maybe the SC was considered a success to Hyundai?

The Tacoma is super popular, good luck getting buyers to switch from that. I see this as more of giving current Hyundai customers what everyone has: bigger trucks and SUVs options. However sales of the Ranger took a nose dive after the Mav came out and given the Mav vs SC sales difference this seems like an odd move. Maybe they figure any sales here is better then nothing. The mid-size market has proven to be a tough nut to crack, it was basically abandoned between the 2011 Dakota and 2019 Ranger.

It will be interesting, they have struggled against the Ford Maverick hybrid and yet the used car market is saturated with used Ford Maverick hybrids. People bought based on fuel economy then discovered it was a dog good for a couple of bags of potting soil at Walmart. They also bought off the name Ford thinking they really getting a small truck, and when compared to the Cruz it's outright junk, so lazy they had to use a name from a car of the early 1970's put together by fruit pickers in Mexico.

What the public really wants is a Slate type size runabout with a naturally aspirated 4 banger. We don't want E.V., hybrid or a turbo.
They are miss reading the market based off pure greed. That Ford junk was suppose to come in at 20k and all the idiots sign up for it. MSRP means nothing anymore. Hyundai will be taking a major risk trying to go up against them. At this point it's even doubtful the Cruz will be around in five years time, the numbers are not there, again they miss read the market. Nobody has money.

23 samta cruz limited. Was rear ended fairly hard last week. A older gal in a newer chevy cruz. She's fine, her car was busted up pretty bad. My cruz only had the rubber on the lower bumper cracked and a license plate light cracked. My body guy will fix my minor issues. The rear bumper is stout.
