Ok I don't make too many U turns but the last 2 that I made turning left I hear a clunky sound like going over something on the road but road is clean, doesn't happen when I make a left hand turn only on a U turn. I have my SC a little over a month. any ideas?.

Mine did that once when I first got it, nothing more in the last 6 months.

Turning left also, thinking of talking back to dealership and getting it checked, new car shouldn't be making that sound.

Although I don't know exactly what causes that noise, I have owned several cars, both foreign and American, over many, many years that did that 'clunk' noise. It only ever happened on very tight, full-lock turns. It never got any worse, even after a hundred thousand miles plus, perhaps because turning that tightly is rarely done.

Binding CV joint at max angle, normal
Is this normal on SC? I've had a few hyundias and never experienced this noise, anyway made an appointment for August 17 at dealership let's see what they have to say. Will post the outcome.

You dont have anything in the brunk that would tumble around when turning sharply eh? I keep my hitch back there and it makes noise if i dont have padding in there with it to dampen it.

No everything is in the cooler, you could feel it on the steering wheel also, haven't tried right u turn yet but will try it later on today.

I've been hearing/feeling this clunk too, not only at full turns, but sometimes on moderate 90 degree turns in a parking lot or from one road to another. It does sound like binding in the rear end, but I don't think I would categorize that as 'normal'. I've never had this in any other modern AWD car I've owned, even at full-lock turns. My old project cars do this from the CV joints. My 2014 Subaru Outback definitely did not. I was wondering if it was something in the electronic AWD distribution. My previous AWD cars were always simple vLSD center and open front/rear diffs. I'm having a hard time finding an actual technical description of the AWD system in the Santa Cruz, all I can find is simplified marketing material. From what I can gather it's an electronically controlled clutch in the center, and I can't really find any info on the front or rear diffs. But I could imagine the clunk sound coming from a clutch suddenly engaging/disengaging and therefore changing the amount of slack in the driveline.

If it doesn't get any worse then I'm just going to leave it, but I'd be interested to hear what your dealership says.

Yes went yesterday at 1:30 pm and was told I have to leave it overnight, um no.... so made appointment for next Wednesday at 7:00 am. Will let you know what becomes of this. I personally don't think this is normal.

its definitely not normal. There are an awful lot of cv joints on the road, the vast majority of which never make a peep especially from new so i wouldnt think that would be a reasonable cause. Did you happen to have an aftermarket hitch installed? Have to drop the exhaust to install the hitch, if someone didnt reinstall one of the exhaust hangers it might be getting slung around a bit in sharp turning. Just spit balling.

No hitch but could feel it on my steering wheel also, when I'm making a left hand turn no problem, it's only when I stop and make a U turn is when it happens. Will follow up next Wednesday and will give an update.

Any update? My 23 limited has a weird creaking repetitive noise only on sharp left turns from LF. Going to dealer thurs to check it since they couldnt look yesterday. Gets faster with speed and most noticeable basically full lock left turn in parking lots. Seems like a binding CV joint to me. 3,300 miles only.

Update:
2 days later the noise is gone now.. went away on its own ! So odd. It was NOT a backing plate..rock.. etc either. was definitely a creaking like a dry rubber creak that was rotational and increase with speed the sharper the left turn was...... Odd.
