That's inline with what we see. If I'm in front in my real truck both of the Cruz that go on vacation with us can get closer to 28. On their solo trips it's down closer 23. Which is less than the big truck.

If they are kept down to backroad speeds around 55 they do better and get closer 28. But I'm still pretty disappointed for a modern 2.5
I kept the speed limit today… I-75 in Ohio 33mpg for over 4 hours and Kentucky - up and down hill for over two hours at speed limit - about 26mpg
Much nicer day today…. no rain… and warmer as well.. 17C vs 7C

I'm thinking of buying a Throttle Controller that speeds up the pedal ratio, thinking it might help that flat/hesitation that I get off the line once in a while. I had heard that the Sport mode does that and also tightens up the steering also but I find it taxing on the engine and my pocket book, running around town at 2500rpm when the normal and smart modes are at 1100-1500 rpm...
Throttle Controller
Bought and installed this Throttle Controller and I am happy to say it works. Plug and Play with the Santa Cruz SEL Premium 2.5T. Defiantly makes it feel more like I expected the Turbo to feel!

Yep thats the one I have wish listed, I also asked if it will fit a Santa Cruz 2.5NA and they said yes... and now we have a hands on install (You) so I feel confident to order...
Also did you have any hesitation before install?

A buddy of mine had the same on his 2022 Sonata N line 2.5T, so I was familiar with it.

Amazon has a great return policy. So no hesitation. If it didn't work or I didn't like it I would just send it back. I am daily driving in F2.9 (throttle controller) Normal mode (Santa Cruz). I did see about a 10% decrease in fuel efficiency on my drive today but the smiles outweigh the drop.

Off the line I have a noticeable quicker response from the throttle. Gets up to speed quicker but with cruise enabled revs dropped back to normal 1500-1700 rpms at 65mph. So I expect it will all balance out in the long run.

I was driving quite aggressively on the backroads before I hit the highway on the way to work. Fun, quick add-on. It does not increase HP at all but thats not what I was looking for.

What I mean..is did your Santa Cruz have any hesitations off line...a Flat stop? Mine does once in a while when your trying to merge into on coming traffic and that makes it a bit scary, I find if I flutter the throttle it comes out of it and takes off..sometimes burning rubber LOL

Even with the Turbo there was a delay before all the power is available. It has reduced the lag and spongey feel of the pedal. I am happy. My son has a SEL 2.5 NA Santa Cruz AWD. When he comes to visit I may test on his as well. So far though for around $70 I am impressed.

That will be a waste of money. It makes no change to how the engine performs. You can do the same thing by pressing a little harder with your right foot.
Pressing harder will not change anything, the issue is that Hyundai's factory setting is in effect delaying the response time of the throttle by wire. The throttle controller allows you to adjust that delay incrementally (1-9) and also has settings for which driving mode you are using i.e. normal, sport, eco, MT, etc... Pressing the pedal harder, or quicker will not affect the factory response (or lag) between pedal activation and throttle opening. I just installed the same unit that CASD referenced and it really "woke up" my Limited! I have it set in normal (F1) mode at level 6 of 9 and the throttle response is now almost instantaneous, and I can still turn it up 3 more "notches". Best $75.00 I've ever spent.

A throttle controller will only ever impact your warranty if it is deemed to have caused the issue that you are seeking warranty on. They do not change shift points or affect the transmission in any way, they only change the sensitivity (time delay) between the pedal input and the throttle body activation. Much like taking up slack in a cable would do. It may make it seem like your vehicle has more power, because of the improvement in throttle response, but it does not increase performance or change any of your engine's parameters. I don't see how this could damage a vehicle, unless you start to drive more aggressively and abuse your vehicle. What articles, posts you've read are you referring too?

Have not read favorable things about these mods, ranging from too much stress on the transmission and possibly voiding the warranty. Any insights?
These throttle controllers just change the response curve. It is not pushing the engine or transmission any harder it just changes the ratio and rate of pedal position to throttle position. For example when you push down 40% on the gas the computer sends a 20% signal that slowly builds to maybe 30%. This makes the vehicle drive smoother and feel less jumpy. However to some people it may seem sluggish or even a bit laggy. Every OEM does this a bit differently for example I find Nissans too sensitive while Ford and Benz are slower. My Corvette is linear but does has a preprogrammed delay at tip in which many owners complain about.

All good stuff, I'll defer to you all who know more than I do. My worry is, just like insurance companies who will always try to wiggle out of paying due to a technically by the owner, car companies and dealers will use any modification you make to get out of warranty issues.

Throttle Controller
That "slight hesitation" could be the Turbo kick in time lapse.

Turbo lag if you wanted to use less words😂
It's not turbo lag they're talking about, they're talking about the split second after you hit the pedal it takes for the truck to spin up. Like a tenth of a second in which literally nothing happens before the truck decides you actually want to book it.
A throttle controller gets rid of that.
Also it completely gets rid of the mouse click pedal feel and gives you something you can actually modulate with your foot appropriately. I have enough pedal modulation now that I can give the car just enough throttle to hear the turbo slowly spool up and dump the BOV without going anywhere. Or I can give it enough throttle to spool it fast and dump it. Or I can give it enough throttle to spool it, hold it, downshift and boogie.
I've got a Pedal Commander. I recommend it. Although I've never used that $70 banger, I've got half the mind to order it test it and send it back so I can tell you guys how they compare.

Back on topic tho, I drove in sport mode for like 3 months exclusively. I recently switched back to smart and got noticably better MPGs. Like 16mpg on Sport and now on Smart I'm getting like 18mpg. But my truck is a heavy aerodynamic abomination on snow tires so I get what I get 😂

I bought a throttle controller through Amazon for about $70.00 it works great, has several different modes, eco, sport, etc... and 9 levels of sensitivity for each mode. What a difference! It really woke up the performance, and eliminated the hesitation that I was experiencing.

The computer is fooling those getting over an average of 30 mpg. Show me the display where the trip mileage and the remaining miles is totaling over 531 miles.

I doubt most of us are even getting 21 mpg in the city.

Some people are burning a lot of gas during engine warm up and the car doesn't even calculate that use because it is in park and not in drive.

Fill up your tank to the top. Write down how many miles it has.

When you fill your tank up again, divide the total miles you drove by the gallons of gas you added. The ones saying they get over 30 mpg average are in for a shock.
