Just added the Hyundai factory bed extender after much going back & forth on if it was worth buying. I’ve seen a lot of discussion against it but little in favor of the bed extender, although I’ve seen several photos on threads not related to the bed extender showing Santa Cruzes at work & play using the bed extender. I’ve come to the decision that it all comes down to how much and what use you make of the bed trunk. ( the bed extender interferes with being able to open the bed trunk while it is in place - although it just takes 0:01 minute for one person to remove ) I hardly use the bed trunk on my Santa Cruz except to store beach chairs for impromptu use, however, have found the the bed extender is an incredible Kayak loading aid, with a foam block on top, in order to single person load my 14’ tandem kayak up to the roof racks. ( photos coming once Spring hits! ) I also like how it not only gives you 2’ of bed back when extended but it also keeps items near the tailgate when it is folded into the bed. ( stowed ) I’m glad that I purchased the bed extender for the same reason I am happy with my purchase of the Santa Cruz, it does just what I needed it to do!

I had the bed extender forced on me as one mandatory options. In hindsight, after using it on a regular basis for the past 10 months, I would have ordered it. It’s amazing how many creative ways you can find to use it.

The good thing is it came already installed. The service department did it as part of my PDI. It takes less than 30 seconds to put it or take out

Definitely not for everyone. But I’m not selling mine.

The bed extender seems to be a matter of personal needs. I had one that was part of the cargo package on my SEL. I tried over about eight months to find a use for it, but never could, so I sold it. I do use a ratchet strap or two a lot to secure various kinds of loads.

They just hang down, then are ready to clip into tailgate once you flip it over / extend it. When stowed the side stanchion makes a great place to hang your tonneau strap for use.

I do not have theOEM tonneau cover. But I find the extender (when folded inside bed) a great place to hang grocery bags. As you all can guess, just placing lose bags in the back you’ll have one hellova mess after you get home.
