Hyundai Creta STC pickup concept takes Brazilians to bed







Today at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, Hyundai gave its compact Creta crossover a creative new look. The Creta STC (Sport Truck Concept) takes the signature styling cues found on the road-going Creta SUV – more popularly known as the ix25 – and mixes it with the utility of a light pickup.

At 4.65 meters long (183 inches), it’s nearly a meter longer than the standard Creta, and slightly wider too at 1.85 meters (72.8 inches). Its wheelbase has also been increased, stretched from 2.59 meters (101 inches) to 2.80 meters (110 inches). Riding on a set of 21-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli 295/40 R21 Scorpion Zero tires, the robust layout gives the STC “an extra does of sportiness,” says Hyundai.

Developed by the Hyundai Design Center in South Korea, the team worked in partnership with Hyundai Motor Brazil’s area development specialists in creation of a concept specific to the Brazilian market. The idea was to create a unibody pickup aimed at the younger generation, large urban centers, and emerging markets with a focus on sport utility.

Similar to the Santa Cruz concept that was first introduced at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the Creta STC infuses the Hyundai design language seamlessly, introducing new features like LED headlights, a chiseled front fascia, and a more prominent grille. The double-cab layout also provides plenty of interior capacity, and the reverse opening rear doors provide easy rear access.

The final touches come in the ergonomic bed, which similar to the Honda Ridgeline, introduces a set of speakers, power outlets, and a number of nifty storage compartments. Though Hyundai doesn't provide a figure for load capacity, one can expect it to be similar to the 650 kilograms (1,433 pounds) avaialbe in the Fiat Toro.

The Creta STC will remain a concept for now, Hyundai not providing any detail as to production possibilities.

Seems to me that the rest of the world really took a liking to the US designed Santa Cruz and decided to design their own concept based on the global compact CUV platform. If they do a US and global truck like most other manufacturers do with their midsize trucks, at least we know the US version will be more tailored to American tastes as far as ride and handling and features.

Do you think we will see some variation in bed lengths and cabs or just be limited to something along the lines of what we see here which maybe in production forum rivals the Tacoma?

I'm thinking this is going to come in 2 different sizes maybe. If it'll be rivaling the Tacoma, that comes with two different sized beds, it would make sense for this one to have one too as they wouldn't want to give them an edge ?

This is for global markets. Its direct competitors would be other small unibody vehicles like the Chevy Montana, Fiat Strada, etc.




If your discussion was directed toward the Santa Cruz, I would expect a single configuration along the lines of the Ridgeline, but hopefully more compact. You cannot cost effectively offer multiple body configurations with a unibody platform. That is a benefit of body on frame design.

I'm just looking at how cartoonish this looks now haha. I think it's the really bright satin color and the wheels that look like they're way oversized.
