Hyundai has been selling cars in the US since 1986, and it has come a long way since then.

“The United States has been a key region of focus for nearly three decades, and this landmark achievement comes after years of accelerated growth and the strategic rollout of our product line,” said Derrick Hatami, vice president of national sales, Hyundai Motor America. “Today serves as a testament to the design, quality and value of Hyundai’s product portfolio. The American car market continues to be on the rise, with more than 17 million new car sales expected in 2015. Hyundai is well positioned for continued growth in this market, offering consumers a variety of vehicles that meet their needs.”
Here are the top 5 nameplates, in terms of sales, that Hyundai has been selling in the US since their debut.

1. Sonata (2,498,203)
2. Elantra (1,284,788)
3. Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport (1,244,934)
4.Excel (1,146,962)
5. Accent (1,103,337)

For a brand that used to be associated with poor quality and the lower end of the market, Hyundai has become a leading automaker. Pretty awesome.

I think that it is quite interesting that Hyundai has sold 10 million vehicles, and right at the same time it has launched Genesis as a luxury sister brand.
