For the 14th straight year Hyundai has been ranked first in customer loyalty in the automotive industry by the Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index (CLEI).

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 12, 2023 – Hyundai Motor America has been ranked first in customer loyalty in the automotive industry for the 14th consecutive year according to the Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index (CLEI). Hyundai is also in the top 20 among all brands and has finished inside the top 20 every year since 2017, based on the Brand Keys Brand Loyalty Leaders survey. Hyundai is the only automotive company awarded a spot in the Top-20 in 2023.

“We try to ensure that our customers have the best experiences possible, from shopping to repurchase, by leveraging our excellent technologies and class leading service programs at every step of the journey,” said Angela Zepeda, CMO, Hyundai Motor America.

“Because expectations are more emotionally-based today, brands have a difficult time identifying and tracking them,” said Robert Passikoff, Brand Keys founder and president. “But there are ‘hero’ brands that pretty much ‘own’ the #1 spot in their categories long enough to earn a ‘perennial loyalty’ designation. Hyundai is one of those brands.”

More information on the Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Engagement Index and 2023’s #1 brands can be found here: https://brandkeys.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/PRESS-RELEASE-2023-CLEI-Overall.pdf

For 2023, Brand Keys interviewed 113,550 consumers, 16 to 65 years of age drawn from the nine US Census Regions. Respondents self-select categories in which they are consumers and brands for which they are customers, assessing 987 brands in 110 categories.

That survey certainly does not seem to correspond to the rankings of customer satisfaction that puts Hyundai only ahead of Kia at the bottom of the list by JD Powers. Strange for sure. I guess it depends solely on the source of the information.

I was really surprised to see Disney+ as another #1 on the list.

Resale and trade in are big drivers of "customer loyalty". In the real world (UNLIKE THE INTERNET WORLD WHERE EVERYONE IS 6 FOOT 4 AND 240 LBS AND PAYS CASH) not everyone pays off their vehicle in cash at the dealership. When you buy a Hyundai or a Mopar, or a Buick, Nissan or any of the vehicles that consistently have lower than 80% resale retention (typically listed as a 5 year metric) then if you want to trade you pretty much have to cough up cash to. Have any positive equity or trade for the same brand and try to just come out even. Whereas a Honda or Toyota or similar brand that has 85-90% resale retention you can trade anywhere you please for any brand you please. Mopar/Hyundai/Ford (cars and small suv) and GM (cars and small suv) have such low resale that they love to see a Toyota come in to be traded. They can make money on it.

Especially so in the days of 7-10 year loans with no down payment.....

And of course resale is driven by model most times. Jeep is terrible (along with all Mopar) You can't give away a compass/ patriot etc etc but the wrangler holds value well. Gm and Ford cars and suv tank in value while the trucks and truck based SUV do far better. Etc etc

So does Hyundai just make it easier to roll that negative equity into your next vehicle? Because that would be the only reason for buyers to return. This ranking seems to fly in the face of what Hyundai gets dinged for: engine problems and low resale value.

I was brand loyal to Honda for 3 purchases in a row (over many years) but as I moved into other vehicle types (trucks, sports cars, more upscale vehicles) Honda offered nothing that fit the bill. They got boring and ugly inside and out. So loyality only goes so far.

Disney+ doesn't have a lot to do with the parks. Disney+ is their streaming service

But people have been paying exorbitant amounts for old Disney/ star wars vhs/dvd/blu Ray/ betamax/laserdisc etc etc for years. Now they can stream them all they want in 4k for a flat 8 bucks. Plus they get marvel/nat geo thrown in.

Albeit without Dolby atmos..... lol

Really when you look at the box office over the years..... having Disney, star wars, and Marvel is a massive chunk. If they would make all their content exclusive it would really be tough to make them anything but number 1

Never had to deal with Ford eh?
I have. Many times. A million other fseries a year sold for 50 years have too. Most had no issue.

IMHO, loyalty is not based on "news reports" Look what consumer reports did to the Isuzu Trooper and Suzuki Samurai. Loyalty is based on actual ownership. That is why I'll never own a Ford or GM vehicle again. I've had many Hyundai vehicles, none of them perfect. But Hyundai and the dealers have ALWAYS made it right. When I traded my 17 Tucson, I got an extra $6k in trade because... it was in demand on the used market.

No Ridgeline for you... interesting. I found it to be way over priced and lacking power. (IMHO) Honda engines seem to be pretty bulletproof, is that true in your experience?
The Ridgeline is pretty much identical in power and trap times to the cruz turbo. WAY faster than the base.

Wait.. I just read they catch on fire or maybe it was the hitch harness? Nope, the oil dilutes with fuel and causes the grill to pass small flying animals. That's if the DCT doesn't desolder the pump forcing a connecting rod to poke his head out like a turtle. Or something? Seems to be raining with doom threads today. Must be a moon phase thing.

I gotta quit reading up here. 🤪

No no. The rod goes truth the block dumping oil on the exhaust manifold and they burn.

The built in thermal unit failed already so they run hot to begin with.

The Cruz has the upgraded sacrificial super flimsy radiator that bursts and sprays coolant on the fire as we have seen on here already . so we are all good
