I think that they did a really good job with the design. Its a good concept and you can see how the production model would be derived from it. The only thing I am not really sure about is the little pops of color on the wheel arches.

Yeah i don't know what they were thinking when it came to that. fortunately it shouldn't be something that makes it's way to a production model. just a really pointless thing to have.
They probably did that to show emphasis on the wheel well tie downs that is has.
Now if the fender tie downs do make it to production, they should make it an option and integrate them into bolt on fender flares.
never would have thought those were tie down points, great way to integrate it and at the same time make it look good. another think i know it would be useful for are skii's and snowboards.
That's actually kinda cool and it makes it even more useful as a utility vehicle. In the production vehicle hopefully they won't make them stick out so much though. I think that isn't really needed.

Also really cool that the bed can extend.

that's not really much of an issue if you look at it, they've gone really minimal with how much it sticks out, seems to be just enough to me. plus the straps get quite close to the body
I can see many people buying these just for the styling, and many of those people will prefer a clean smooth look. The tie down points are more of a function over form feature which I think could turn some people off.

I have no need for them and would prefer if they weren't there.

I meant stick out visually, not physically. I was referring more to the colors that they used to accentuate them.
I see what you mean and I agree.
My preference is that the should be the same color what ever is immediately their. So if it's some black plastic liner, have it in a finish like that.
Recent pic from the Hyundai's instagram. Nice to see it in sunlight rather than inside under auto show lights.

Seeing it away from the car show environment, this has me thinking that they should take it to some local events ;)

It takes on a new life in this photo. Most I have seen are indoors, but the natural light gives it a much different look. Thanks for posting this.
Going through the comments on their instagram page where this is posted, there's A LOT of positive comments, have yet to find someone completely bashing it.

Well to be fair, if you are commenting on the Hyundai instagram you are probably subscribed and more of a fan.

In a more general setting (ie. youtube or forums), its pretty positive but you will definitely see more bashing.
You can see how the concept would translate to a production model too. Simplifying the design in your head is not that difficult.

I think the danger is that people all like the Santa Cruz but that doesn't mean they would all buy it.
