Dealer down here did that on the last car I bought... $399

View attachment 1761

Told them there was no way I was paying for that (or any of that other baloney -- the windows weren't even tinted), in fact I'd pay them $50 to remove the pin stripe. I spent an hour of my time with the heat gun peeling it off as soon as I got home...

If the buyer wants it, wonderful, do it. But... don't just go slap pin stripes on every new car as a money grab. Huge pet peeve.

Unless a person has a lot practice, Most DIYers wouldn't make a doors length let alone the whole vehicle. And fancy stuff....FA GET ABOUT IT! Remember It is not the price of the vinyl stripes, It's the price of the knowledge to place them on correctly. $400 sounds more like gouging, not fair trade.

Reminds me of an old anecdote, back in the 80's we had a huge mechanical room and roof to add to an existing Art gallery, that included craning in and protecting a huge stainless steel tank - a month before turnover a huge (3x I used the word huge) dent appeared on the tank, with the roof all complete there was no way to replace it, easily. We found a guy, he came, wandered around, felt and touched the tank, took out a special hammer, one swing near the dent, out it popped - his invoice came in £2200 - my boss flipped and asked him to justify his bill as he was on site barely a half hour:
Travel time and expenses 2 hrs each way: £180 (it was the 80's)
Specialist tools and time on site: £100
Knowing where to hit the tank: £1920.00
Knowledge is priceless!

”All stripes do is collect wax on the edges and leave residue behind when you finally decided they look terrible and need to come off.
^^^BEAT THAT DRUM!

Your statement applies to all those lick-em stick-em add ons. Not only wax but dust, grim, sand and salt can hide in all those crevices. Over time will act as an abrasive. How do I know? I once was that guy that added all those “cool” eye catchers to my vehicles. When I decided to come clean and began to remove all that stuff I discovered how bad the paint had deteriorated. It just makes washing and detailing so much less of a hassle w/o worrying about all those nooks and crannies.

KEEP IT CLEAN! LESS IS BEST!

EDIT - If any kind of painted stripes or additional painted detailing is used I am a fan!

Gusto!
