In an effort to better compete with newcomers in the segment, Nissan has confirmed that the next generation Frontier will be getting a heavy facelift. It will still run on the same aging F-Alpha platform but they claim it will have a 'futuristic' look. If it gets a new engine, odds are it will be the new 3.0l V6 that makes around 300hp. https://www.auto123.com/en/news/next-generation-nissan-frontier-2021/65782/

If they are going to revise its styling and powertrain, they might as well consider a new platform. It looks like the next generation Tundra and Tacoma will be sharing a platform. Could Nissan do something similar with the Titan?

Updating the platform would just be too expensive and keeping the Frontier cheap to produce is paramount to its success. It currently sells for less than $30k while most of its competition starts from $32k USD. They could consider that Navara platform, but it uses coil springs instead of leafs, making adaptation pricey.

Even if Nissan drastically improves the Frontier, it has some stiff competition to face.

Everyone else will be shopping for the Tacoma, Ranger, Canyon and Colorado. Ranger deliveries are happening at the moment and its on my radar right now.
