Please Allow Disabling Remote Tailgate Release

The top of my tailgate, mainly on the plastic, now has several scratches from my garage door opening. How? Why? You may ask. The problem is the button on the remote only needs to be pressed for less than a second to lower the liftgate. Twice now, while I've been in the house, with the remote in my pocket, the liftgate was lowered unintentionally because the button somehow got pushed. Then I go to leave and the garage door (rollup type) goes thwackity thwackity thwackity on the liftgate as it rises.

They either need to require the button to be pressed for a longer period - at least 4 seconds, or have an option to disable remote release of the liftgate in the vehicle settings.

Hyundai sends me an alert if my doors are left unlocked - perhaps they can send a message when the tailgate is left down for extended periods of time when the vehicle is locked.

We had to disable the auto hatch in both our Outback and Sportage for exactly the same reason.

How did you disable it?
I have never had this issue. I did once have my windows rolled down by the key fob

I would assume that in the tailgate there is a solenoid or electrical item that when you push the release button is activated to release the tail gate lock. disconnecting the power to the release mechanism would solve that problem.

Note : THIS IS WRONG it is all electrical operated no manual release...

Wouldn't this prevent you from opening the tailgate manually in the first place as the same solenoid is used to open the tailgate when the button is pressed manually on the tailgate?

Yes, that has happened too.

I assume the tail gate handle is a mechanical manual release...
"Note Wrong does not have manual release electrical power only"

It is not. You can hear the solenoid disengaging when you press the button to let the tailgate down. This leaves me to believe that is a solenoid being released as it is electric

it appears to be electromechanical aka solenoid : so how do you open the tailgate without power?

well I think it's both .... when the panel is opened up to view, try the release handle and see if the tail gate opens... that will answer your question..

NOTE: WRONG NO MANUAL RELEASE ..I just went and checked...

another thought if the doors are locked the tail gate should not open until they are unlocked... i tried the handle release on the tailgate while the doors were lock and the tailgate would not open..

NOTE: the tailgate DOES NOT LOCK WHEN THE DOORS LOCK,,(i just checked on my SEL),,,so access to the trunk compartrment in the bed is accessible anytime... NOT GOOD...
You didn't mention this, but I'm sure you would already have done it if it was possible and that's moving the
SC forward enough for the overhead door to clear the open tailgate. I was able to do this with both
my SC and Outlander. Had to move stuff in the front of the garage, but worth it.

if you unplug the connector to the solenoid. You can't release the tailgate. Unless there is a mechanical way to do it? Can someone invent a door to access the latch mechanism from the tailgate?

If you drilled a hole in the correct spot. Perhaps you could use a T-handled device to turn the mechanical center piece of the mechinism? Of course this over thinking the initial issue...but it got me thinking! Sorry! LOL
