We had to disable the auto hatch in both our Outback and Sportage for exactly the same reason.
How did you disable it?We had to disable the auto hatch in both our Outback and Sportage for exactly the same reason.
Wouldn't this prevent you from opening the tailgate manually in the first place as the same solenoid is used to open the tailgate when the button is pressed manually on the tailgate?I would assume that in the tailgate there is a solenoid or electrical item that when you push the release button is activated to release the tail gate lock. disconnecting the power to the release mechanism would solve that problem.
Yes, that has happened too.I have never had this issue. I did once have my windows rolled down by the key fob
I assume the tail gate handle is a mechanical manual release...W

It is not. You can hear the solenoid disengaging when you press the button to let the tailgate down. This leaves me to believe that is a solenoid being released as it is electricI assume the tail gate handle is a mechanical manual release...
it appears to be electromechanical aka solenoid : so how do you open the tailgate without power?W

well I think it's both .... when the panel is opened up to view, try the release handle and see if the tail gate opens... that will answer your question..it appears to be electromechanical :
I did get one for that exact reason - wife opened garage when she got home last night - thwackity thwackity thwackityohh to the OP...get a cover for the key fob. Its helped me avoid these issues.
