There's a TSB for shock mounts. Have your dealer check them.

Keep the mother-in-law away from the rear seats, that will eliminate rear end rattles

 

I had the same problem and could replicate it by standing on the rear bumping and moving the Cruz up and down. Took it into dealer and they changed the rear shocks and that solved the problem.

 

This is for the Palisade but it's the same mount.

Please check whether one of Your tailgate struts has become weak and the tailgate rattles against the body. I had this problem. Replaced left tail gate struts and problem vanished.

Same issue here, it happened after the first tire rotation..

 

I have been having this same issue for about a year now. Bringing it to the dealer on Wednesday to solve it, hopefully.

 

Went to the dealer today and did a ride along with a tech. He definitely heard it and said that he just dealt with a similar problem on a customer’s Tucson. He told me that he could likely get an order of replacement shocks, but needed to check if there was any visible evidence of a faulty component. They called me back up after it was in the service bay and said everything looked fine, with the exception of my hitch wobbling in the receiver (that is completely normal and happens). He said it’s likely because it’s an aftermarket tow hitch (I told him it was a genuine OEM part from a Hyundai store) and I told him the sound was present even before that hitch. Anyway, they told me to come back if it gets worse (which they told me the same thing months ago) and as I drove away, I stopped, took the hitch out the receiver and as soon as I started driving again, the plastic-y rattle was still there. Not sure what to do at this time.
