So many manufactures are delaying the actual delivery of new launch (and just new in general) cars and trucks. Ford has literally thousands of F-150s 99.99% complete minus a few unavailable computer chips, just sitting in parking lots. Ford also notified Bronco buyers that the delivery of their new vehicle will be pushed back another 2 to 3 weeks because of plant shutdowns this and next week. With the SC supposedly starting production in June, what are your thoughts on a potential delay? I would have thought pricing would have been announced already if production is to start in the next few weeks?

Hyundai is a huge multinational company with their interests in lots of industries. Based on the large number of tucsons on the lots, they may not have the same problem as other manufacturers.... Fingers crossed

All the colors appear to be out now. They've done a lot of planning for this vehicle, so my "best guess" is that Hyundai will come through with their June release. I'm thinking pricing comes May 31st or June1st, but I could be wrong... 🙏

Hope so too. Seems the Tucson roll out has gone smoothly. Would really like to see pricing, options, MPG, etc reveled. Then be able to see the colors at a dealership, plus take a test drive or at least get them out of review. For me a late '21 purchase (Oct / Nov / Dec) would be fine, I am in no rush... but once I start seeing them around town that might change ;)

Uh-oh! This means I may have to add another layer of duct tape and baling wire to my poor old Element.

Called Tustin Hyundai the other day to see if the Hampton Gray one was there on display that was posted in a video (local to me), but apparently it is a Hyundai higher-ups personal rig and he was just there to show it off and take them too lunch. Sales rep I spoke with said all the guys working there are waiting to get their hands on one. He'd been checking the future inventory lists frequently and hasn't seen any show up yet. That list looks about two months out. It's going to be a long wait for me, but after 6-1/2 years what's two more months...

Bummer... but thanks for the update.

I wish we had a full online configurator to play with... that would provide some entertainment while we wait. I had forgotten about the concept vehicle since it had been so long with no real updates. Plus they showed a 2 door back then which wasn’t for me.

I happened to pop over to the Hyundai website just now to see if there were any updates and there was a live Q&A presentation going on. I asked about pricing and trim level detail and the presenter said we should have those details in about 2-3 weeks when production is getting started. He didn't make it sound like they were expecting any delays related to the chip shortage. 2-3 weeks to start production and then about 4 weeks after that it should start hitting showrooms.

He mentioned 281 hp / 311 torque for power figures for the 2.5t a few times, which I don't think I'd heard specifically before... I think most things I've read were vague stating 275/310+.

Thanks, @treybrad, we're all a bit starved for new information.

So, late July we may get to see them "in the flesh." I'm really looking forward to trying one on for size. Also want to see some of those ambiguous, color-shifting paint jobs.

No kidding... I asked if the Sage Gray (Green) or Desert Sand are metallic paint colors and he didn't know. I'm not convinced I want a non-metallic color, they're hot and trendy now, but I don't know how well they'll age. They also tend to be a little more maintenance intensive if you're OCD about paint care like I tend to be :censored:

The above is all good news. Production start in June requires dealer orders. I've requested to be placed with my dealers first allocation. Hopefully I'll be driving one in July..
Don't need to see one in the flesh, don't need to drive one. I've always been an early adopter. I'm convinced Hyundai has this dialed in and on point....It's EXACTLY what I'm looking for after selling my 6 year old Colorado in anticipation. Will be my 75th car...:)..

They look like flat colors to me... I too prefer metallic that pops more in the sun. What we are getting here is muted and dull. However what is old is new again as most cars in the 50s came in flat, pastel solids: The Allure of Period Colours

Do you have a link where we can watch or see a transcript of this?

For something that is a month away I would expect more details around trims and pricing. Guess they are really using a JIT (just in time) production system.

No, unfortunately not. All I did was go to the main Santa Cruz page on the Hyundai site (2022 Santa Cruz Debut | Sport Adventure Vehicle | Hyundai USA) and a little video with chat popped up and they had a product specialist answering questions while sitting/walking around a Santa Cruz in a studio.

Here's a little blurb about it, they call it 'Showroom Live' - "Hyundai Showroom Live," an Interactive Video Experience, Now Available on HyundaiUSA.com

Looks like it's a standing thing on Tues/Weds/Thurs from 0800 to 1200 Pacific time but they rotate cars weekly. Pretty sure he said the IONIQ 5 was next week.

That's some great news! If true, they should be leasing pricing and options soon. After that, I would think they will be calling us to have all the "insiders" give them their specific requests before they start production to get the properly equipped cars to each location.

As for the color being solid or metallic, I think they have a metallic or pearl-ness to them even though they are muted colors. If you look at the Blue Stone photos posted (especially the one zoomed in on the Canadian Hyundai President in the back seat) you can see a metallic-ness to the paint. My best guess is that is why the colors seem to change with different lighting conditions.

Dropped by dealer to see if they have any info. The senior salesperson didn't even know about the Santa Cruz reservation page or if they will even get allocation. Fairly clueless. Was not impressed by dealer and may switch to a different dealer. Maybe I am expecting too much.

It is always amazing just how difficult it is to underestimate a car salesman's knowledge of his product.

Perhaps that is because they can so expertly answer any question with a bald-faced prevarication, without batting an eye, so there is no real need to invest any energy into learning about the actual product. This would seem especially likely with a 'unit' that is still only vaporware and may well be stillborn, anyway, for all he knows.

Hopefully, your dealer will perk up a bit when the SC's (and their tire-kickers) begin to appear on his lot.

100% on point above ^^^^

My experience is most dealers are utterly clueless. Both sales and service departments. The sales people aren’t really “car people”, they don’t follow the industry or know their product. Their sole purpose is to off load inventory and get you into the F&I office to see your credit score. If they can’t put you into something shiny today they could careless. Guy was likely selling washing machines last month.

Near the end of this video the Hyundai rep claims they should appear in dealerships in the August time frame (in Canada), specifically "all out" in the market by late August.

The video also shows how well a bigger 6'2" guy fits in the back seats... not bad, apparently workable for short distances.
