step on brake pedal, cuts out radio reception and causes static????

Hello everyone, here's one for you, I just bought a used 2022 Santa Crus SEL premium. I really like the vehicle except for the poor sound system, try listening to my favorite fm stations and reception is very poor. I figured it had to be the antenna along with the lower end sound system, very frustrating! I just noticed yesterday it only does it when you step on the brake pedal ? I figured it must have something to do with voltage drop since brake lights come on, but the headlights being on doesn't seem to effect it. My SC has a trailer hitch installed when I bought it, could the wiring connection for trailer be the problem?

Good luck. I will be surprised if that fixes it. Then again there may be some connection like REVERSE and muted audio. Who knows.
I’m late to the game here… so forgive my ignorance. Is it possible it’s a mechanical issue? The brake mechanism is physically rubbing/chafing a wire and or harness that is related to the radio?

Your solution might be the same as the previous owner. Selling the lemon back to the dealer.
Latest update, Tuesday morning I took my SC to friendly local Hyundai service to replace shark antenna after a week wait while they ordered it. They were "pretty sure" this was the problem, Tuesday afternoon I was told a ground wire for antenna was not sent, emergency ordered. Thursday was told ground wire was received and would be installed, this should fix problem and they would let me know ASAP. Friday I waited for an update, nothing, left them 3 messages and never got a response, now closed for the weekend. This time "no news is NOT good news", I assume they are still stumped and problem is not fixed. My biggest complaint is nobody kept me informed! One more strike and they are out, lemon law
Well, today (Monday) I get a call from local hyundai service to inform me problem still not fixed. They said hyundai tech wants them to replace 5-pin junction box for rear lighting, if that doesn't solve problem replace that wiring harness which involves removing most of the interior. Had to order box, arrives wednesday? Won't know until at least thursday if that fixes problem, almost 2 weeks in the shop again. I am really getting discouraged!!!!
Update, you were right Arizona Fred! Local Hyundai service called me and said Hyundai tech advised them to check rear lights, sockets and ect. They found aftermarket LED bulbs, replaced them and took care of problem. They were primed to blame me and not cover under warantee until I reminded them I bought it certified used. Apparently previously owner had installed the bulbs on a 1 year old SC?? Still cuts out radio when I put it in reverse, I suspect their LED also and service didn't check, extra step they didn't bother to do. I'll check myself. Thanks to all that offered me advice.

It is normal for the radio to cut off in reverse.

Good news brother!

I don't recall. Is that a setting in the infotainment? I thought it was... but I've been known to think wrongly.

I gotta ask, were those the LED bulbs that don’t require external resistors? That type has electrical circuits inside that can create lots of electrical noise. The LED systems that use resistors don’t have those issues typically.

And I hate that too!

I didn't see the bulbs, just was told they were "big" led aftermarkets. As far as it being normal for audio to cut off when SC is placed in reverse I have never heard of that or seen it on a vehicle before. Is that another hyundai specific guirk?
I am very big on LED but not on automobiles.

Its a safety thing I guess. I don't remember the exact setting because I changed like the 2nd time I drove my SC because I found it to be super dumb.

I think it is another safety feature to concentrate your attention to the camera.

It is to hear the audio warning when a vehicle or person is approaching the vehicle.
Greyhair, your comment makes sense about hearing a warning and I don't think there is a way to change this setting. A setting I think is totally dumb is the fact the ignition has to be on for the homelink button to work. In other words car must be running before opening door and when pulling into garage you must start closing door before shutting off engine. Totally a!$ backwards in safety logic.

willybill, if the ignition didn’t have to be on for the Homelink button to work, then if your vehicle were outside, then someone could break into your vehicle and just push the Homelink button and have access to your garage. What might make sense though is a 60 second timer on the power before it shuts off, so the Homelink is energized for long enough to for you to press the button. On getting in the car before starting…..same logic as above…
Yeah, I don’t leave my car out of the garage either, so in our cases, perhaps an override setting in software would have made sense.
Or, maybe if the keyfob was detected…then the Homelink circuit would be energized…..that might also make sense.

GaryH, yes I agree with your logic. I believe my other cars in the past (Toyota,Honda,Chevy Ect.) the homelink was tied to the keyfob. That makes more sense than hyundais logic. Thanks
