Wheel Tire Car Vehicle Hood

I've been trying to figure out a budget friendly way to get some more storage over the bed for travel without needing to spend $$$ on a rack setups and roof boxes. I wanted to see what people think of this idea.

I came across some cargo carrier bags that people were building frames for using PVC, so this would be two of those bags side by side with PVC frames internally, and those would sit on top of anti-slip roof cargo bag mats on the roll up tonneau cover. They would be secured down with a heavier duty cargo net which will hook onto however many tie down points it needs along the t-slot rails of the tonneau. This would net an extra 24 cubic ft of waterproof storage over the tonneau cover.

Here's the list of items aside from the t-slot tie downs.

How much weight can the tonneau cover support?
I feel like I’ve seen 200lbs floated around. Def were a lot of review videos with reviewers showing themselves standing on the cover like that was a big feature. That said, per the manual they don’t recommend doing this, but I figure their legal team probably just told them that they couldn’t say you could put stuff on it.

The main thing is making sure it doesn’t slide, which I feel like the anti-slip mat, rubberized bag material, and heavy duty cargo net should be able to manage for like 50lbs Per bag. That’s what I am thinking at least.

Pretty sure (and as a couple others have said), the weight limit is simply for snowfall, not transport. It's advertised as 200 pounds. I'm thinking either a cross-bed rail (plus/minus $200 on Amazon) or maybe even a roof-top carrier secured onto the rails using the t-slot. I definitely wouldn't haul anything on the cover. I've dropped 30 pound boxes on it going to FedEx while I opened the tail gate and the cover wobbled a lot.

Maybe something like this bolted into the t-slot would work (eBay).

edit I was curious, so I actually bought one to try :ROFLMAO:

Yeah that was my backup plan. Just a little bit more that the setup I was trying to do with the boxes on the tonneau. I'm glad I asked before trying it ha.

I found these load bars that are not too bad. Def more than what you showed, but still half the price of a thule or yakima setup to mount to the t-slot tracks on the tonneau.

- Sherpa Universal Load Bars

I'm trying to see if there are any boxes like the Yakima DeepSpace 10 that are about 48-50in in length vs 60in. I think if I mounted one or two of these over the bed they would stick out about 10-12in past the back.

Alternatively I could go with the storage bags w PVC frame I originally found and then look for a basket they could fit in over the bed. Would just want to find a basket that has an interior dimension that is as close as possible to the dimensions of two of those bags together.
