You can not dismiss the 661lb. warning in the 2022 & 2023 manual. For safety and warranty reasons. As Hyundai Consumer Affairs did me, when I asked about it.
Irrelevant- unless the bed load restrictions are specified in the door jam labels that meet DOT regulation, it’s irrelevant.

Manufacturers are required to place a yellow sticker on the door jam, if any thing, such as accessories added, impacts the load capacity.

They can’t deny you warranty coverage, if you have complied with what ever is outlined on the door jam plates.

Sure I can. "Warning in a manual? What warning in wht manual? I never read that". Did you sign something indicating that you had, or would read the manual, or that you were required to read it? Was there a warning sticker on your SC about a bed load limit? Even if you overloaded the bed and had a problem it would be very difficult for Hyundai to prove.

This +1. Like most things the payload calculation information is the result of what the engineering team gave to the legal team. This is published (poorly) in the manual purely as a CYA from Hyundai HQ. This way if your SC is damaged or crashes they can say "oh too bad but we told you not to carry that much". From there the lawyers take over.

I've loaded the bed on my previous trucks with who-knows how much weight... sadly Lowes didn't have a scale handy so I had to guess. Did I go over? Maybe. Did the truck sudden explode? Nope.

Because I have a Hybrid on order besides my SC and there are a ton of folks over there misinformed on the SC along with folks that get misled by the fanboys that don't think Ford has any problems at all even when owners complain on their site...
Who cares what a Maverick toad thinks of the SC. They are jealous of the SC because it’s better in every way. I laugh every time I drive by a Maverick, what a dog. HaHa

I'm in the same boat as you and have been on both forums. I initially ordered a Maverick Hybrid in September 2021 and then bought a Santa Cruz because I could get one from a dealer at MSRP. My plan was to sell the Santa Cruz once I received the Maverick. Well, I did receive my Maverick Hybrid finally at the end of February, and guess what, I will keep the Santa Cruz now that I have had a chance to drive both trucks. Yes, the Maverick Hybrid is a nice truck, and the bed is a little bigger. But the Maverick Hybrid tows only 2,000 pounds, and while the mileage is great, I love, love, love driving the Santa Cruz with its 2.5T and DCT. I have had zero problems driving the Santa Cruz 19,000 miles and loved every minute of it. So does my wife, so she vehemently insisted also on keeping the SC. So we will say goodbye to the Maverick!

Just a few things I wish the SC had:
  • the armrest on the rear bench. Come on, Hyundai - why is there no armrest on the rear bench?
  • Power Inverter outlet inside the cabin and inside the truck bed
  • USB-A and USB-C outlets

That's it!
Love the Santa Cruz. Maverick is also nice, but love the Santa Cruz more!

I find all this stuff fascinating. Just because Ford says you can put 1500# in the bed of a Maverick doesn’t mean one SHOULD put 1500# in the bed. Their manual states to not exceed the gross axle weight rating, but the never list an empty rear axle weight or even a weight distribution. So therefore Ford puts it on the owner to try and determine those numbers. Interesting also that the SC has a rear GAWR almost 1k# higher than the Mav (according to the lariat sticker I was able to find on the web)

Why doesn’t someone just copy and paste the GVWR info for the Maverick? (Kudos to GTAcruz for posting ours to clarify things)
All of the totals for weight carrying….passenger loading etc require a little math, though most of us don’t do it because we know our own situations and are usually well within limits.
Its not like you can put five 200 lb people in the Maverick and ignore it as it relates to GVWR and payload.
They have to do the same calculations.

It appears we now live in a world where people can say whatever they want, without context, knowledge, experience, or common sense…..and insist they are correct…..as long as there is a flock of “sheep” they can convince to go along with them. Not just in Forums, but everywhere. Strange times.

100% right. The Internet has given the average keyboard warrior far too much power.
Just look at the thread on this forum where people think putting a strut tower brace, somehow affects the body roll of the vehicle. 🤦‍♂️
it is what it is. People that believe what they read on the Internet is true, often can’t be argued with.

Is it true that the Santa Cruz can haul as much as the Ridgeline in the bed? How many of those 100lb cement bags do I have to put in the cabin of the Ford Maverick, as I am not taking measurements and folding down the rear seats for nothing?

No armrest. Because, like the rear seat not folding down. It would expose the ugly backing.

  • The inverter is only rated for 150W (that's only 1.3 amps)—basically worthless. I would have preferred a 12V, 150W power outlet in the back...
  • Although USB-C is the impending standard, USB-A is still more wide-spread today. I do have a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging my new iPad, but everything else I own uses USB-A cables...

The 661 comes from Hyundai doing some mental math - the figure allows for having multiple passengers… not sure why they did that

1,400lbs is also misleading - there‘s a thread here some where, I did the math… The base SE FWD, if you do the math, can carry over 1,700 - less as you go up trim levels and it gets heavier.

Maverick 1,500 is also based on not having any passengers - get 4 Americans in the cab and the load capacity goes to 500lbs 🤪😂

Typical, sign of the times - ppl spew garbage with out understanding the fact’s.

But you also need to account for the weight of the gas (6lbs per gallon) , 13.5 gal tank - @ 81 lbs ; 16.5 gal tank @ 100 lbs

Good observation. I am not going to be the one overloading the truck bed. Broke down on the side of the road or swerved into another vehicle. I have not heard of anyone else developing the " Death Wobble ", other than the Ford Ranger, F150,F250,F350 and some Jeeps. I pray that it does not come upon the Maverick.

The GVWR usually includes all fluids, including fuel, unless otherwise specified. Thus often called “wet weight” by some.

I guess I better mention “Curb Weight” as I’m sure someone will jump on that if I don’t. This is normally the weight of the vehicle, without passengers and cargo. It too…often ( I better disclaimer that there may be an exception) includes fluids, including a full tank of fuel. (See disclaimer lol). Curb weight is arrived at by taking GVWR and subtracting payload and passengers.

Went to the Maverick Truck Club and had to deal with a bunch of folks telling me the bed carry weight is 661 pounds and grab a screen shot of the Santa Cruz manual which gives a warning not to exceed 661 pounds. Of course when you read how to calculate payload on the same page they explain minus 5 passeners at 150 pounds each as an example from the sticker on the door of 1411. When you do the math it comes out to 661 pounds. Obviously that is either a coincidence or Hyundai wrote something in the manual that confuses some folks. Which is it?
I have the limited but already threw in roughly 1300 lbs , it definitely droped the back down to almost the bump stops , but when driving it i didn't notice much of a difference. Still had power tojust spare and handled just fine.... Just have a good old fashioned pull off to shut them up.....😅😂

Heck people air their tires up to the max pressure on the sidewall of their tires….never knowing the car was engineered to have “x“ amount of air pressure in the tires as part of the overall suspension of the car! Where would they find this crucial specification? Door jamb.
DAILY..... lol. In my shop I get this every **** day. I argued this week with a Highlander owner who wanted the 80 LBs of air in The Truck tires he had on his highlander. Placard called for 28.

Payload is generally calculated with a full tank of gas and full oil pan, washer fluid, DeF, Coolant or any other fluid your supposed to have.

Death wobble is generally on a live axle or a motorcycle. Ive never seen or had a vehicle come into my shop with death wobble and independent suspension and I get "death wobble" complaints once a week. Usually a 4x4 with a lift but I have seen it stock.

Its probably possible but One tire can't transmit vibration to the other very easily with independent suspension. Every time I've had someone think they had death wobble with its it was only one tire shaking
