Just scheduled the hitch and the install with U-Haul $300 with labor. Looking at the part number on the U-Haul work order it shows it is for the Curt hitch. Going to Curt's site the linked instructions show that it is also concealed. Curt is the Hyundai hitch?

Did you have the Kurt hitch installed yet? What are your thoughts? Is there a mount for the 4-pin or 7-pin connector?

Not yet 3 weeks until the scheduled install, not a priority at the moment. Have it for a bike rack and I'm able to put it in the bed for now.. Plans next year. Uhaul only offers the generic 4 pin harnesses, I imagine they would improv the mount. Going to order the Kia harness. And figure out eh brake controller.

What is the consensus on the controller? I'm Aiming to limit my towing to 4000 so I'm not more than the vehicle weight

The problem with the controller is there an under dash connection for it???

See... this by @Mike86merc The Official Santa Cruz Towing Thread
I think @Mike86merc is spot on.. based on the splits in the wiring harness itself (note the t connection) that bundle appears to go to the cabin. Being a T makes sense as the controller goes between the connections and alters the signals. I checked my pictures of my RAM 1500 install... and bingo... same connector under the Dodge dashboards. Hoping for a controller soon.

From Hyundai? Might be waiting awhile.

I never had to deal with brake controllers - so is this style connection typical, IE: any aftermarket system should plug right in?
LOL... not likely from Hyundai! I meant 3rd party.

Yes on the under dash connector being "typical". I can't speak for all brands, but on our Ford F450 (RV) and previous Dodge 1500, they both use the exact same connector. There are many plug and play controllers for FORD/RAM.. so I'm hoping the connectors are the same and would work.

Need a measurement please.

Will someone with a trailer hitch put their tailgate down and measure the distance from the tailgate surface to the hitch insert top/center/bottom?

I'm considering ordering a trailer hitch and want to know if my 1UP hitch mount bike rack will clear the tailgate when folded up without a bike. It looks like I need about 13". A picture with a tape measure in place would be great.

Thanks!

Thanks CaseyH! It will be close, but it appears a 1UP single bike rack when folded up will clear the Santa Cruz tailgate in the down position.

I have ordered a U-Haul/Curt trailer hitch and will post up actual clearance next month.

I thought someone mentioned the Dodge connector working on another H/K product. If so this would another thing off the checklist for those requiring trailer brakes since Hyundai can't seem to get their :poop: together on an official factory solution.

I finally installed my Hyundai tow hitch along with the Kia 7 pin harness. I can install my 1up rack today and I'll post images. The tough part of the installation for me was torqueing the bolts above the exhaust, even when not attached to the holders. I was able to install it without a lift or jacking the truck up. I have a deep gutter in front of my garage so I was able to place my front wheels in it, thus lifting the back just enough for me and my wife to fit. Saved some money on installation since I bought the pricey oem hitch.

I don't see Hyundai offering a brake controller. The OE manufacturers never offered them until they integrated them into the interior. If they did, I am sure it was a rebranded one they marked up a lot.

I would bet if you buy a brake controller, you can buy the Dodge or Ford harness from the company and it will work fine. Like mentioned, the plug under the dash looks the same as what other companies are using as well.
