Trailer Tow Hitch Harness Recall

Got my notice in the mail today about the Trailer Tow Hitch Harness Recall. They have included a Postcard so that you can check whether you have the 4-pin harness or not. If not, then they will remove your vehicle from the recall list. If, yes, then will send you another notice later when they have parts to fix. Fix seems to install a new harness with a 15A fuse. Since I have CURT Hitch and Harness, I am OK and do not need to take to a Dealer for inspection.

I got the recall letter also. I don't have a harness, just the OEM hitch.

Thank God. I got mine too. Who started the rumor that we had to bring it in for inspection?!

I have the OEM hitch as well. The two pieces, hitch and harness are not itemized on the window sticker. It just says "Tow Hitch". It was a kit. The bracket for the harness is welded to the hitch. Why was the harness not supplied or did you buy just the hitch?

Tow hitches weren't available installed from the factory (at least not to order) when I got my SC so it was bought separately. My OEM hitch was added a four weeks after by the dealer due wait times to get one.

Card arrived Saturday. No hitch or harness so easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Though I am thinking of installing a Curt hitch and harness. But that's for another day.

This is a nice option to be able to self-certify that you don't have their hitch and harness Saves a ton of hassle taking it in just so they can report the same thing.

Well just got a Possible recall notice on my Santa Cruz:
It says (asks) did Your vehicle come with a trailer hitch installed ? Then asks : 7 pin or 4 pin..
Well mine did not come with a hitch or wiring... I added my own...
so I must answer and return part with my answers...
it also indicates that the 4 pin wiring is the problem..
it also said they are still working to resolve the problem...

Really strange they have no idea how your vehicle came from the factory or dealer...??

over and out...
so glad my vehicle is not involed in this **** storm...

What kind of nonsense is this? Received my notice and looked at the pictured 4 Pin in the picture and then looked at the back of my SC. The picture is not even close to what I have for the 4 pin. The Tow hitch was factory installed and it's showing on my window sticker. So I am asking the folks here does your four pin connector look like the one pictured if you have a factory installed tow hitch? Mine sure doesn't.
The picture on the notice I think was a tucson….on the connector….don’t worry what the hitch and bracket looks like….yours is either 4 pin or it’s 7. If it’s 4 pin and Hyundai, then you need to get it inspected.

I wonder how many people are going to miss the point, take the photo literally, and get it inspected based solely on the fact that it's not identical. 🤦

you raise a valid point if it smells like chicken, tastes like chicken, but doesn't look like chicken? its still likely chicken. Except the bottom 'no hitch' picture, that is not chicken its a Santa Fe

This part is a dealer installed accessory so my understanding is even if it came from the factory Hyundai HQ doesn't know if your dealer actually installed it. For example my cargo net came in box - it wasn't installed despite being on the window sticker.

Agree they should have used a picture of a SC so its an exact match. They assume people know the difference between a 4 and 7 pin. If there is one thing I've learned doing documentation for my job is NEVER assume.

My question is; WTH didn't they do this to begin with? You'd think it would have saved a lot of dealer and owners time not having to go it for the recall. if they had sent cards first maybe dealers would have less lengthy wait times for other service.

Hyundai apparently is unaware of the internet and E Mail. I suspect that many folks could have gone on line to save a lot of time and not worry about the US Mail actually delivering the card you have to mail off.
