Anyone else having smearing issues?
I have what I would describe as smearing on the downstoke mostly of my drivers side blade. It has the look of grooves in a record Most of the smearing starts right where the passenger side blade parks before it returns to its side. Its tough to get a photo of it. It is most prevalent in light or intermittent rain.
Blades are brand new...with the last month.

I do a lot of driving,..should I clay bar clean the windshield?
I have tried to clean with quality cleaner and microfiber but that doesnt seem to do much good.

I've clay bared glass and it kinda helps strip old windshields that are pitted. Found a Rain-X coating to be more effective. I switched to silicone blades as most factory rubber flavors streak, jitter and squeal. I like PIAA Super Silicon blades and their arms. Rain-X and a couple other have silicone material.

Im trying to keep this thing all factory as far as arms and such...BUT if there was a really good blade out there I'd do it provided the old was easy to take off without boogering things up and the new one easy to install/click on.

I am correct that I shouldnt be getting any streaks like im describing on clean glass?

Have you cleaned the wiper blades? If not wet a paper towel with windshield cleaner, same stuff in the windshield cleaner reservoir in your vehicle. Draw it up and down the knife edge on the wiper bade. You will see dirt and other crap on the rag. Continue to use different parts of the towel until you don't see anymore crap on it. This may take care of your problem.
When I got my Cruz home on day one I cleaned the wiper blades and there was a lot of crap still on them from when they were manufactured and probably dirt from the transit from the factory to the dealer.

As an aside, I owned a 2008 Honda Accord that did have a dished windshield. You couldn't tell it till it rained. It was a battle with Honda, under warranty to get it replaced. But they finally did. Honda customer service is terrible.

Good idea. New blades are not really clean. The machine used to make the wiper edge leaves residue on that knife edge. Wiping the blade edge with windshield cleaner fluid on a paper towel will remove any residue left on the blade from the machining process.

Remember to keep using different areas of the paper towel to see how much crap you are removing with each wipe. When you see you are not removing any more crap the blade should be good to go.

Do not force the blade when wiping it. Becareful.

Another suggestion is to use rainx. I have used it for eons it is great stuff.

Hope everything works out well for you.

So..at some point I should stop getting black on the paper towel? I didnt go crazy..have taken my time and I can still remove black with a paper towel...Nd I STILL have smears in the downstroke and its getting reallllll annoying.

I shouldnt be getting streaks even minor ones where my vision is slight distorted right?

Yes, if you got all the dirt and grime off the wiper blade then you should not see anymore on the paper towel at some point if the cleaning process. I assume you were using windshield washer fluid on the paper towel you were using. The towel should be well saturated. Not dripping wet, but quite wet.
If your still getting streaking then maybe you do need new blades. Or as I found with my Honda yesterday back, the windshield is defective.
