Just sharing something for others to get ideas...
If you use wood to span the bed, it might pop out of the slots when you hit bumps. If you slip a 3/4" spacer on top of it, it wedges snug.
I realize there might be some spacing issues for hauling 4x8 on top, but to keep this piece in place as a cargo stop it worked fine. Used all scrap pieces. Cost $0
