Several dealers over at the Maverick camp are offering 3-4% off invoice. Just wondering if it's happening on the Cruz?

I don't think the concierge or dealerships have a clue as to what is or is not being built. Stopped at local dealership last week and tried to order a Santa Cruz Limited. The only interior choices were black or dark gray w / orange highlights. As for gray interior, it is not listed on the computer form, so no way to order a gray interior in a Limited Santa Cruz with leather. Dealership was ready and willing to put in an order for me, but the sticking point was they could not give a delivery date other than maybe by end of year. At that point I walked out.

Unfortunately the dealer is correct. Hyundai doesn't have a way like most domestic brands to directly submit a factory order. The dealer can put in a request for what they want and when they are allocated more Santa Cruz if one is available they MAY get it depending on how many are available and how many dealers are asking for it.

Right now, everything being allocated is just about to be built, but when they get to their normal process, what is allocated in their monthly allocation won't be built until 2 months after it's allocated. So putting in a request now - first there are no guarantees at all that it will be filled at all (sort of like the reservation process). If they don't get it in August since everyone is trying to get what they want at the same time... they might get it filled in September, which would be November production and arrive late November/early December.

Kia's process is somewhat similar and I've seen Telluride customers wait 4-5 months without their request even being allocated. :(

If you have a Maverick on your mind, Granger Ford gives you 3% under invoice...good people to work with, I got a quote in 1 day from them once I sent them a configuration from Ford's B&P. (Configure it,print it as a pdf, save the pdf, send to Granger via email = quote with discount applied)...zip code is 50109...contact may be Sean Masters? ...they recently lost their internet guy (Albert)....like me he was old and passed away...I have a Bronco reserved with them, but will most likely cancel it due to production delays (hard tops) ....Granger is transparent with all their transactions...wish other dealers followed their lead.

I think it comes down to...The Reserve and you're an insider is a scam...meant only to give the bean counters something to flash in front of the upper management... It's worthless..and a waste to even think your measly $100 has an effect on anything.
I feel like Hyundai is not a company I'm really interested in working with... Shock and Awe is old new...........

1. Nothing happens in manufacturing until something is sold
2. Marketing may recognize a need, but can't/won't commit to a forecast of sales)
3. The reservation system is a bandaid for the Marketing guys to get manufacturing to build something (that may turn into a sale)
4. The dealers are needed for service and part sales
5. Factories (the OEM) need to educate dealers and change their make to stock system to a build to order system
6. Companies go into business for one reason only...to make money (and the accounting dept is the watchdog/reporting dept. For that important factor)

I don't know how Tesla does it...when they first came on the scene (in Socal, they set up sales offices in shopping malls) do they only build to order?...where to you go to get their brand of vehicles repaired?...the overhead must be very high part of the vehicle "cost".

that is false. The $100 deposit was meant for people to order what they wanted. For the first few hundreds or maybe even several thousands of deposits, you got to see what was availble at the time on their website and make a decision based on that. After that, your local hyundai dealer that you specified at time of deposit will contact you and ask you EXACTLY what you want. I know this to be true because that happened for me on friday last week.
You can ALWAYS order what you want. The downside is, you typically lose any incentives or rebates, but not always.
Every dealership is getting 1-2 vehicles this week or next. If you get a call from your salesperson and they have you come in to look at one of those examples, you can choose to take on or put in an order for something different. Hyundai doesnt expect you to take something you dont want, BUT, is more than happy to sell you something ASAP if youre willing to be flexible.

Got his email from my dealer today:
This email will go over 2022 Santa Cruz info since we have been getting a lot of people asking when the Santa Cruz will launch after seeing the world premier on youtube this morning.
The answer is, we don't know officially, and Hyundai hasn't released that info yet. Here at TH, we are suspecting around the 4 month mark from the end of April. - So August, Sep, possibly October at the very latest depending on the chip shortage.

We will pre-sell any and all Santa Cruz.
The customer can actively go to Hyundaiusa.com, fill out reserve form, and their info will be directed to our Internet Department to follow up with as well as a representative from Hyundai to get more details.

Pricing:
All Santa Cruz will be sold at MSRP.
Please do not ask to discount the 2022 Santa Cruz.
Tustin Hyundai has NO dealer adds and NO dealer markup
.

Strict Time Frame In Place:
As with past launches, of Palisade, Nexo, Tucson Fuel Cell, Santa Cruz, and any N-Line models inbound, we will hold the car for you for no more than 30 minutes past your appointment time you set up with your salesperson for you to take delivery at the store. It is imperative that you communicate with your salesperson especially the day before and the day of. We are continuing this process with the launch of the Palisades and now with any new launch. It seems to be working quite well for everyone involved. There is less confusion and more solid commitments from the customers doing it this way.

I received a text today from North Freeway Hyundai in Houston asking what trim level I wanted. I asked for pricing of each.

He replied: “They are all over MSRP right now. But if you have a trade it helps because they are inflated values as well.”

I responded that isn’t good news.

His reply: “Average is 3-5k plus thousands in made up dealer fees and packages. I am currently allowed to do 2k market adjustment but it’s causing us to run out quite a bit faster than others”

If they are sitting on a limited sage with gray and orange accent interior, maybe I can see someone willing to pay over MSRP for because that combo is a true unicorn.
Otherwise, they are delusional. Santa Cruz is not a Kia Telluride that suburban soccer moms must have in order to keep up with the Jones. Those who buy Santa Cruz as first adopters like us, are pretty much all shrewd auto enthusiasts, and we know better not to pay over MSRP no matter how badly we want it.

Can't imagine any dealer stupid enough to tell a prospective buyer that they are going to do these things up front on the phone. Their goal is to get you into the dealership and then sell you the car. This action just makes the prospective buyer walk away; like I'm sure you are going to do. How a dealer like this even stays in business is beyond me.

Run Forest, RUN!!! Away from that dealer...

Yes he texted that. BUT…there was a miscommunication: it turns out he was taking about the Santa Fe, not the Cruz. He even said Santa Fe in the beginning but I failed to notice (perhaps because I had just read the email from Hyundai Concierge about my reservation). So for what it’s worth, he was talking apples and I was thinking peaches!

Oh. Well, that explains it.
Good to know that only Santa Fe buyers will be 'skinned,' while the Santa Cruz buyers will not be taken to the cleaners. <sarcasm>

Wishful thinking alert: So, if any of these SCs hits the dealer before the with end-of-month in a few days, perhaps there will be a chance for a little pricing sanity? Or, not -- because it's brand new and hot.

I'm thinking things will be chill by February. I'm not getting my hopes up on striking an excellent deal before then, but that gives me plenty of time to test drive a Maverick, Escape, Tucson, and Santa Cruz back to back to back to see which I like best, and the very first batch that are the most likely to be problem children with teething issues of the new assembly line will be somewhat worked out and already picked up by the pre-order people.

What demand??? There's maybe a couple of hundred people on this forum and half of them are backing out because of the MSRP and buying a Ford Maverick and that's your core group of "I want it now" buyers. That's less than a days production. No advertising from Hyundai, most dealerships are clueless as the what the Santa Cruz is. Where are all the buyers going to come from? Walk ins?

With you Limited being in such demand, how far above MSRP are you willing to go? Do you think the dealer is going to sell it to you if someone else is willing to go $2,000, $4,000 or more. With such demand the dealer would be foolish to sell it at a low (MSRP) price. The four dealers I have contacted in WI are pretty much clueless as to the Santa Cruz. With Hyundai needing to push out 30,000 or so units a year to make the Santa Cruz a success and the Maverick biting at their heals, it will be a tough sell.

MSRP is a hard line to cross, most people will not accept paying over MSRP as a matter of principle. Sure some dealership might be able to sell over $5k or even $10k over, but those irrational, gotta-have-the-newest-toy kind people are very few, dealership won't be able to keep that markup momentum going for long.

As for myself, MSRP is the price I'll pay for the limited at the moment in this market, if he honors that agreement and all goes well, maybe I'll give him personally a gift card to eat in a restaurant to benefit him personally, not going to add a dime to dealership's coffer. If he doesn't sell to me at the end, I might get upset for a bit, but I'll tell myself that someone got more money to burn deserves that car more that I do. That's why I always wanted a Civic Type-R, but never was I able to buy one because the lowest price ever offered to me was $2k over sticker.

Any list that gives the same vehicle (Wrangler) two places instantly loses credibility with me. LOL But if you look at the list, it doesn't tell us anything we don't already know. The mindset that Toyota/Honda will be worth more longer is more entrenched in the collective psyche and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'll be curious to see if the names have changed much in 10 or 15 years. Toyota didn't earn their spot overnight. Think back to the 80s/90s ... nobody (except maybe some of the owners) considered Toyotas to have superior reliability and value. It takes a long time to build that reputation. Hyundai/Kia have been busting their butts to build a new reputation - but it will take a while for that to reflect in 5 year depreciation tables.

I may be alone out there, but I'm not buying anything with the intent of flipping it in 3-4 years. I look at it as a MINIMUM 8 year purchase, more likely 10-12. And at that point, it's well paid off and really doesn't owe me anything. The only thing that would push me out of it sooner would be a new vehicle that I just can't live without OR somehow getting a complete and utter lemon that I just want rid of no matter what the loss. I've been fortunate to have never owned one of those thus far.

I'm with you in that I don't look at depreciation as I tend to keep my vehicles a long time.

Most of the vehicles on that list are off-road vehicles. Even though that's not my thing it seems bizarre to me that a vehicle that is subject to the potential abuse these are would depreciate so little?

I'll never buy an off-road vehicle but if I did I'd be afraid to buy a used one regardless of the brand or depreciation. 🙄
