What you can do for larger dogs is take out the under-seat storage bins and fold the seats up. The bins are held by 6 screws. That way the dogs are on a flat surface. Although, two Great Danes would be crowded I am sure.
Any worries about the seats unlatching and coming down on the dogs if you had to panic brake? Or is the latching mechanism pretty stout? I feel like I would worry about that enough to just put a seat cover in back and let them hang out on the seat.

Thought I'd write this review for people considering the Santa Cruz.

There's no doubt this vehicle is "unique" - so when you first consider it, or possibly purchase it, you may be wrapped-up in the excitement of a newly segmented vehicle. THE REAL QUESTION IS, does the novelty wear off, and are you still happy when/if it does?

So I just came upon the one-year mark of ownership, and in that year I put a little over 20,000 miles on. If needed, here is my ratoinal for purchasing the SC in the first place:
(1) The Sweet Spot - My Opinion for anyone looking at the Santa Cruz | Hyundai Santa Cruz Forum (santacruzforums.com)

After a year - I am still totally happy with the Truck! And over the course of those 12 months I've put this little Hyundai to the test.
Towing - I've towed my single jet ski all over the state, and in-and-out of plenty of boat ramps. Never a problem. More on this if needed at: (1) Towing Feedback on SEL 2WD, 4 cylinder | Hyundai Santa Cruz Forum (santacruzforums.com)
Cargo- The Bed is small, be warned. I am not a contractor so the majority of my time I am not transporting anything, but I have transported a new refrigerator, several hundred pounds of trees I cut down, truck loads of sod, and patio furniture. All without issue. To compensate for the smaller bed, I did add a roof rack purchased from Amazon.
Gas Milage- This is something that's easy to forget, but should always be remembered... With the exception of Ford's Mavric nothing with a bed delivers mileage like this. I was talking to a guy who had a Really nice Tacoma, kind of had me jealous; but he said he's lucky to get 18/19 on the highway... I average 25. And that is with the roof rack which took about one mile per gallon off the efficiency.
Fun Stuff - Unfortunately, I haven't used the cooler in the bed (at least not as a cooler), and I don't use the sunroof as much as I'd like because the noise from the roof rack is loud. The auto open on the tail gate is great. The rear slider is cool. The LED bed lights really do come in handy. The bed cover is great... In all my previous trucks I've either not had one, or removed it, but the SC is functional and good to have. It is NOT 100% waterproof though, so be warned.
I also bought the tailgate letters off amazon - they fit and look great.
Build Quality- Great scores here... So much better than the Colorado I used to have where the door panels creaked when you press your leg agist it, or there was always something rattling. Seats still look new, and the dash and shifter look great. NOTE: There is some weird problem with the coating on part of the door panel flaking and peeling off, which is a bummer cause I'd give a near perfect score otherwise. I predict this will get a recall at some point in time.
Also, I got rear ended a few months back. The SC withstood the impact well, fortunately no airbags deployed, and I was relieved with the availability of parts for the bodyshop. Despite all the damage, you would never know anything happened.

If there is one once of buyer's remorse, I would say that I wish I got the SEL premium with the Turbo. The 190 HP NA is actually a pretty sufficient engine and it definitely "does the job" - so I am sure that adding the Turbo would really make the Truck fun to drive... but it costs ya a mile or two per gallon, so it's a give and take. I'd say that if you can afford the extra $3000, upgrade to the Premium without a second thought. Also, I would not mind having the AWD, but I would not say that I'm longing for it as no one should really be getting a SC for off-roading...

...And even after a year, a load of miles, a significant accident/repair, I still get questions and complements on this truck. I have the Black color, but I think the creamy colored sand and green are cooler looking. I know a lot of people are so-so on the Rims, but I like them and they are totally Unique.

TAKE AWAY - if you can handle the reduced bed space, and don't mind being in a smaller "truck" the benefits in gas mileage are awesome, and unless you tow something really heavy, you are not giving up too much other truck-functionality. After a year, I am still totally happy in the Santa Cruz and the novelty hasn't worn off, I still love driving it and seeing it in my driveway.
I’m at the 8000 mile mark after 6 months of ownership. It’s still gives me joy when I drive it or even see it. On a recent trip back from Ohio. (600+ miles) I averaged 29 mpg. Speed ranged from 40 to 70+ mph. This is with the Limited Turbo. Better than I expected. Two adults with luggage. I do use the sunroof occasionally but removed the roof rack cross bars because of the noise. Very annoying at the 40 mph mark. It’s a 10 minute job to take off so I’m hoping that it’s easy to put on should the need occur.

Hello Chris! All I can say is I agree fully, but it won't be all I say, LOL! I've been a Hyundai owner and enthusiast since purchasing my first Sonata GLS back in 1989. After that a 2009 Sonata Limited (a totally different vehicle!), a 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 V6 Track AT, a 2012 Genesis 3.8 V6 Sedan with Premium Package, a 2013 Elantra GT PZEV and now the 2023 Santa Cruz Premium! I have yet to have buyers remorse on purchasing any of them and love them even more today than the first day I purchased them. I still own the coupe (did a lot of mods on it), the sedan, and of course the SC. I still get compliments today on both the sedan and coupe; people think they're near new. I did have some peeling problems with the coupe on the hood, but I think a lot of that was due to rock strikes because of how low it sits. I had to get the mirror covers on the sedan repainted because the clearcoat came off; will be more diligent with protecting them now.

30K for me and no significant problems. 2022 Limited purchased 2yrs ago Oct. I love this car and will strongly consider a 2025 or 2026 as a replacement. I find that it is enough bed for me and I use it all of the time, either house maintenance materials, gardening landscaping, or traveling with boat supplies and coolers. Tows my flats boat (plenty of power in the 4 banger turbo) and of most importance to me is that is easy to drive and drives extremely well on the highway at 75-80mph. Just returned from 3K trip to NC mountains and it handled mountain roads extremely well and the interstate. I especially love the safety features which make driving less stressful. Have had one leaking headlight which was replaced and replaced one windshield from rock damage. No problems with recalls. Use factory hitch and 7 pin Kia harness on trailer hitch.

When I first got it it was a novelty and people would stop me on the road and ask about it. On my recent trip, I now see them in much greater numbers. Still have no understanding why there is no advertising by Hyundai on the vehicle ? What is the future plan for the car/truck.

Things that I do not like:
  • "Traffic light cameras ahead" warning which cannot be turned off. Ridiculous. My usual commute goes through about 5 of those cameras and it is very annoying.
  • My driver seat is already showing significant wear at the seam, which it should not. I would hope that there might be an even more luxury version in the future, as interior quality is good but not great.
  • I prefer Hyundai GPS because of the screen display. Entering a location though is PIA and have found Hyundai voice recognition unreliable. Then I go to Apple and Car Play is awkward and the two do not work well together. Wired Apple car play is a real pain. Awkward to switch back and forth.
  • Hyundai Blue Link does not seem that helpful and gives me false warnings for service etc. Dealer does not seem to communicate with it.
  • Wish milage was a bit better (city) but my truck friends wish they had more mileage like mine. It would be interesting if they could do a powerful hybrid, which I would jump on.
  • Wish there was a trailer guidance option, like on F150, as it is hard to see and back a trailer.

But overall very happy.

I'm two years in as of 10/9 but only 12,000 and as much as I look at other vehicules time to time...I really like my 24 avg city MPG....I like how it drives like a SUV not a truck
Sure I wish I had AWD..don't really need it but piece of mind would be nice
Don't want the tranny that comes with the turbo, Wouldn't mind the turbo tho, I find the NA 2.5 has plenty of power for those Home Depot runs :)
Seats still look new
As much as I look at other trucks....when it comes to prices and the interest rates... I'll stay where I'm at for a long time.

My only "buyers remorse" is the limited off road capabilities. that being said, I mainly offroad to look for places to camp, not to try out off road courses, which the SC does get me to the campsites no problem(I may get a beater for that as I have my eyes on a geo tracker). I get usually 25-30 mpg, sometimes more(SEL Premium). The only issue(which I would have run into no matter what I purchased) is the workaround for my CB, and there is only one 12 volt DC port(my Colorado had two). the SC does what it was made to do very well, which most AWDs are purchased by people who want to stay on the road. Hyundai could have used a better tire though but I may just get some all terrains(in addition to a lift and offset rims). I still hold true to my reservation about the headlight placement in relation to the seat placement. But I've gotten used to it. I have over 24k on mine.

The xl7/ tracker 4x4 system is garbage. Ive fixed many. Can steer you in the right direction if you get one. But Google the stupid front end/ actuator/ pump issues.

Find an old 4 runner or even Tahoe. Or wrangler if you want smaller. The old 4.0/ Dana front and rear is pretty tough. Even though it's a Mopar.

I'll check it out. Either way I do think the 3k he's asking for is a wee bit much for a 32 yr old vehicle that's stock and bare bones(manual tranny/hubs etc) with 200k on it. Now if it was restored a bit or modded, maybe. I was also looking at old school cherokees and yada yada. Next time i do off roading in the Cruz it will involve camping with a tent. I learned from my peter's mill run playlist.

If it has manual hubs then it's not stock. They had full time fronts with an air actuated front end. A small air pump put pressure in the front end to lock it in 4x4. Not a terribly robust system. If the front end won't hold air, no 4x4. If the pump dies, no 4x4. If the line going to front breaks, no 4x4. The stick inside will actuate the tcase and spin the front drive shaft but if any of that fails you still get no 4x4. Lol

If it has a manual hub then someone probably already did away with all that. Not a bad thing. And not uncommon

I'll take your word for it on all that. That being said, I'm thinking it's a scam ad considering the seller hasn't responded to my inquiries. I'll give it till Saturday and do the ol report thing.
