wobblybob, Yep…a plastic cover goes on where the side steps were removed and the seam should be resealed. Those plastic covers are about $600 to $700 each. More than the cost of the side steps. I would not let them get away with not replacing those. This is how mine looks without side steps.

GaryH, Thanks for the response. So just to confirm, the rocker covers attach into the channel underneath below these moldings on the side of the truck. Is that correct? From the side my truck looks like yours.

wobblybob, not sure I understood what you stated…..on my SC, the black portion at the bottom under my threshold is the rocker cover. If you have the black piece below your threshold, then it sounds like you have the rocker panel covers already. A picture of yours would be helpful.

Hopefully this works, but here's a photo of the bottom of my rocker panel where I think it goes. I'll try to get a photo of the side like your photo. Mine looks like your photo. It doesn't look like anything is missing on the side of my truck but I see this bare channel where the square nuts are. P.S thanks for bearing with me on this!

So I got the new replacement rocker covers and I can clearly see the difference now between the rocker covers without the side steps and the rocker covers with the side steps. The ones without the side steps wrap around and cover the side and the bottom of the rocker surfaces whereas the ones with the side steps just cover the side of the rocker surface. I'll post photos of both when I take the old ones off to show the difference between them. I now need to replace the grommets. According to the side step installation instructions you are supposed to remove the grommets when you install the side steps. There are 6 grommets on each side, "one (1) rearmost grommet on the upper vertical surface of the rocker panel" and "five (5) grommets on the underside horizontal surface of the rocker panel". Does anyone know the part numbers or size of these grommets? And what is purpose do these grommets? Are they just plugs to cover the holes that are in the rockers?

correction, that should be "And what is the purpose of these grommets".

I watched this several weeks ago, really good video. You did a nice job. Made me wish I got them factory installed to avoid the thought of scraping off factory bond sealer. And that sealer only gets harder and brittle with time.

I do find it odd that Hyundai advises every traded/replaced part to be thrown away. Reading through this chain, clearly a market both ways.

But I have to say, finding the video is not easy. It didn’t come up when I searched for it and searching through YouTube Watch History, it didn’t come up there either…the YouTube algorithm like most these days very antiquated.

For those who can’t find it. Side step install
