One thing to keep in mind, the location for the manual override to apply the trailer brakes is important. In certain emergency conditions, you need to be able to quickly grab that lever while driving and apply only the brakes without using the SC brakes.
Good Point! I had forgotten about that although I have never needed to use that function it is still important.

The Kia 7-pin harness does not have a 4-pin connection hanging off it. It goes from the 12-Pin under the SC to 7-Pin Socket.
Does the 4-PIN Hyundai harness have the same 12-PIN plug without the additional 7-PIN wires?

If so, do you think you could attach the extra 7-PIN wires on the adapter above to the open spots?

Yup, with the REDARC controller I'm using the manual override is applied by pushing in on the knob I installed near the start/stop button. The part stuffed under the center console is just the brains and accelerometer.

I have never seen the Hyundai 4-Pin Harness person but logic/online pictures would indicate it has the same 12-PIN connector but I can't speak to how it is wired. Another thing to note, as far as I understand it, the non Turbo SC's don't have the wiring in place for the dedicated 12v and a brake controller so I would infer the 12-PIN harness on those SC's are missing some wires compared to the Turbo SC's.

That would be sad if Hyundai didn't included the same wiring for what is required to tow the 3,500lb tow rating of the SEL N/A vehicle. Here in CA the law says trailer brakes starting at 1,600lbs and up. Guess I'll have to crawl under and take a look in and behind the fuse panel...

Easiest way is to check the fuse box under the hood. If you see 3 30 Amp fuses that the fuse box cover diagram calls 'Trailer 1', 'Trailer 2', and 'Trailer 3' then you will have the setup for 7-pin with brake controller. If you only have the 'Trailer 1' fuse then your only setup for 4-pin support.

I had submitted feedback to Hyundai that the diagrams were wrong in hyundaitechinfo and just got an email today from a Hyundai Engineer in Korea with a PDF attached with the proper diagrams. They say the hyundaitechinfo site will be updated soon with the right schematics. The PDF confirms the the 3 fuse/brake controller/7-Pin setup but it is not clear if this is just for the 2.5T or not.

This document says all SC are prewired... but to your point - prewired for trailer lights (4 pin) or for trailer lights and brakes (7 pin) ??? Good call on checking the fuse box for clues.

All looks good on my SEL. Tralier 1, 2 & 3 all there.

There are also issues with frontal area especially if you want to cruise at a high speed, but popup should be somewhat low profile. To get 3500lbs you also need to have a trailer brake controller installed, along with a 7-pin connector. Unbraked I think the Santa Cruz was pretty low like 1600lbs or something.
You might want to double check, but I read Somewhere that only the turbo/ premium and limited were pre wired for 7 pin use. Same connector point as 4 pin but additional wire for power to electric brakes.

The person probably threw on the receiver he has used for years with his fullsize truck. Then was stuck when it was sitting low and putting too much tongue weight on it and he was ready to hit the road.

With the garbage bag on the tonneau cover, one might think he was leaving the campgrounds and the rear leveling shocks had not been able to help level the load some. But just speculating.

Ordered my U-Haul/Curt trailer hitch back on 9/23 when it said they would be available 10/15...

On 10/12 I received this:
"We have been working on your U-Haul Order and unfortunately, the part #CMF13486 is currently on backorder for 3-5 weeks, due to a production delay. If product becomes available before hand , we will ship ASAP."

Today 10/26 at 11:56am I received this:
"We have been working on your U-Haul Order and unfortunately, the part # CMF13486 are currently on backorder for 6-8 weeks, due to a production delay. If additional inventory becomes available sooner. We will fill the order."

o_O What the heck! Think any of us will get it before 2022?

I also got around to installing the Curt hitch on my SC. It fits well and is tucked up nicely. Which others have commented as well.

But I figured I'd post up what I used to install the 7-pin harness. Since it doesn't come with a mount like the OE hitch.

The Curt brackets worked out well. The main bracket is mounted under the hitch. It is tight to the bottom of the bumper. It also sits further back than where the receiver goes in. It all worked out well.

One thing to note, I had to cut a slice out of the of the 7-pin bracket. As the harness would not pass through it due to the large section of the Kia harness. The cut section allowed the harness to slide up through it and then the connector could be bolted to the bracket.

Looks BETTER then factory with 7 pin located where you got it.

Thanks for the pictures and links to the products!

No problem. Sharing information is good for the community. I bought several of the Curt options as they have a few length main brackets, several different 7-pin socket brackets, and other designs. I think this worked out best. If other people find other solutions, I hope they will share them as well.

I think due to the cost, and how easy the hitch is to install, I can see many people buying the Curt hitch to save money. At least this is a known working combo that people can order when they order the hitch.

I purchased the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite electric brake controller as well. After seeing the other install posted, I have a couple of ideas for mounting it. I'll try to install it this weekend and post up about that as well.

Did you consider the curt easy mount bracket?
