Did you consider the curt easy mount bracket?
Yes, I did. The Easy-Mount was one of the items I purchased. It would place the 7-pin socket further out from the bumper. As this one sits flush with the back of the hitch. If I had to guess, it would position the 7-pin socket about 6 or 7 inches more rearward than the setup I used.

I have no doubt that the Easy-Mount would be an easy install and work well. But what I used was easy to install as well.

The Kia 7-pin harness does not have a 4-pin connection hanging off it. It goes from the 12-Pin under the SC to 7-Pin Socket.
Created a thread for the Curt 56420 Vehicle-Side Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness and tailgate light strip HERE.

The Curt wire harness part might be helpful for the trailer hitch wiring installation.

Did you see any issue with it - I am just curious why you ended up using the other type of mount bracket.

Just an FYI for those looking for hitches.

On October 15, I ordered the Curt hitch from etrailer # C23WR. At the time, I was expecting to wait until Christmas to receive it. I received it yesterday (3 November). Your mileage may vary. I hope to find some time this weekend to install.

Congratulations. Which 4 pin connector did you order -- that is if you went the 4 pin route?

I just checked the U-Haul site to see when the availability of the Santa Cruz hitch is now stated to be and this is what it says.

Sigh...

I went to my dealer yesterday and they ordered the hitch and it'll be at the dealership in 5 days.

They also own a Kia dealership and the Telluride 7-pin wiring harness with bracket was in stock, so they have it now.

The complete installation is going to be covered under warranty. Total price for parts and installation will be $692. Down $500 from their initial quote. 😉

I also showed them the all weather Santa Cruz mats which are available in Canada and they're going to see what they can do about getting me a set.

I'm happy. 🤓

I ordered one from U-Haul maybe 2 weeks ago and just got an update today that it's backordered for another 2-5 weeks. I'm not in a hurry since I just reach 500 miles today. Also gives me time to figure out the 7 pin wiring.

I would love to get a set of those mats from Canada as well. Let me know if they have any luck and if they do find out any details as possible. I really would like a set.
Thanks

which dealer are you working with. My dealer in Florida says not available. Did they give you any Hyundai part numbers.

Part numbers...

The "late availability" has always been the problem since its undefined. Seems individual dealers are all over the place regarding their knowledge of this. The supply chain is such a mess you might as well flip a coin in regards to when this stuff arrives.

Here is a good video about the SC tow ratings:

TLDW - you can't really tow at the limit because many factors will lower this value as described in the manual. Stuff like passenger weight, cargo, altitude, speed, trailer weight itself, on board water (for an RV, fuel on a boat) and so on all count against you. This means the 4K towing on the Mav could be exceeded by a 3,500lb trailer where as the 5K rating on the SC gives you some extra margin to play with.

In a future video he'll cover remote trailer brake controllers including wireless options so looking forward to that.

Good video. I loved the "Wait there's more!" comment. :ROFLMAO:

  • 150lb people? Beep! Fail, 6'2.5" 235lbs here.
  • 70kph is only 43.5mph. Beep! Just about always going faster than that, even up hill with a trailer and grandma tied to the roof.
  • Forgot to add the tongue weight? Beep! Grandma has to stay home.

Guess the Atkin's diet is going to be on my list of to-do's if I plan on towing. :p
(Actually working on getting down to the comfortable 212lbs I was before lockdowns did me in.)

Again, great video and will get those that tow thinking about actual safe towing practices. (y)
