If it were me I would cut the 4 pin male plug off the light wiring and connect all five wires directly to a 7 pin/blade male plug. That should be simplest and most secure. The fewer adapters and connections the better. At least that has been my experience about 25 years of trailering. Good luck.
Yeah, I guess I can tap into the 7 pin wire. But I'll just add the 5 pin connector and convert the 4 pin to a 5 pin. I don't want to connect the light strip wires directly because those things go out all the time. Thanks.

I also got around to installing the Curt hitch on my SC. It fits well and is tucked up nicely. Which others have commented as well.

But I figured I'd post up what I used to install the 7-pin harness. Since it doesn't come with a mount like the OE hitch.

The Curt brackets worked out well. The main bracket is mounted under the hitch. It is tight to the bottom of the bumper. It also sits further back than where the receiver goes in. It all worked out well.

One thing to note, I had to cut a slice out of the of the 7-pin bracket. As the harness would not pass through it due to the large section of the Kia harness. The cut section allowed the harness to slide up through it and then the connector could be bolted to the bracket.

Did you have to remove the hitch in order to install the 7-pin harness?

Hello Mike I'm still waiting on my Hampton grey sc but would like to shop for the trailer hitch ball mount. What is the distance of the hitch receiver to the ground. Thank you in advance.

TL;DR: The turbo equipped SC has 3 trailer related fuses (1 for 4-pin stuff, 1 for dedicated 12v, 1 for trailer brake controller connection). The owners manual is incorrect as saying these fuses are only on the non-turbo. The turbo equipped SC has a 4-pin connector for a trailer brake controller under the dash (it is hidden up behind the fuse panel). The technical information in Hyundai tech info is incorrect in regards to this.

Alright this gets even more confusing. So the owners manual says the Trailer 2 (Trailer Controller) and Trailer 3 (Trailer Connector) fuses are only on the G4KN (non turbo 2.5L) SC Model. Yet I have the G4KP (Turbo 2.5L) Model and I have those fuses (The owner's manual seems backwards IMO).

In the fuse box schematics neither the G4KN or the G4KP have the Trailer 2/Trailer 3 fuses mentioned. Seriously Hyundai, get it together.

Ok. Looking at the Santa Fe schematics and it makes more sense. Essentially, fuse wise, Trailer 1 is used for standard 4-pin stuff, Trailer 2 is for the brake controller, and Trailer 3 is for the 12v to the 7-pin. The Santa Fe shows the Trailer 2 fuse going to a 4-pin connector under the dash. Also shows the same 6-pin we have found in the SC as the CAN2 diag connector. So It seems the 2.5T SC has the fuses for brake controller/7-pin but now to just find the connector to wire in the brake controller...

Found the connector for the brake controller. It is up behind the fuse panel under the dash:

Do you know what fuses the trailer brake are in the fuse box? I only see on 30 amp fuse.

Here is a video I made of the installation:
Thanks for making such an awesome video. My hitch is arriving on 12/29 and seeing your video makes me more confident that I can do this relatively easily.

The instructions call for the harness to be routed prior to hitch install. Did you find it harder to route the wiring with the hitch in place?

Hi, all,

I'm considering the Santa Cruz Ltd with the 4k towing package, to tow my Brenderup 2 horse trailer (2100 lbs, 250 lb tongue weight - designed to be pulled by smaller vehicles like a Volvo station wagon). With my horse in it, total weight is 3200 lbs. It feels like there's nothing "back there" when towed with a '98 AWD Explorer V8 and an '11 Frontier V6.

Has anyone used a S.C. to pull over 3000 lbs? if so, I'd like to know how the rig handled, especially on hills like here in New England
.

the SC Limited is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs and there is no “towing package”. You kinda gotta piece everything (hitch, harness, and brake controller) together your self.

with that said, the SC did well towing 4000 lbs up one of the steepest climbs in the US

gaaah, "4K towing package" was for a different vehicle. Looking at enough options that my head's swimming!

Are you saying that I can't get the towing package installed by the manufacturer or dealership? that's odd!
