gaaah, "4K towing package" was for a different vehicle. Looking at enough options that my head's swimming!

Are you saying that I can't get the towing package installed by the manufacturer or dealership? that's odd!
The Maverick has something called a 4K towing package.

However...even though Hyundai doesn't offer a 4 or 5k towing package any Santa Cruz with the 2.5 turbo and AWD can tow up to 5000 pounds.

You will need to purchase either the OEM or Curt hitch and the Kia Telluride 7-pin wiring harness and a trailer brake controller to tow 5K.

Draw-tite is also making a hitch now too

the SC Limited is rated to tow up to 5,000 lbs and there is now “towing package”. You kinda gotta piece everything (hitch, harness, and brake controller) together your self.

with that said, the SC did well towing 4000 lbs up one of the steepest climbs in the US
Interesting video, but again, it becomes subjective when picking a "winner". Not taken into consideration are included equipment and even available (or NOT available) options, the warranties, general refinement, etc.

When comparing pricing, that's a big factor, since the SC has a 10.25" infotainment screen, tonneau, 20" wheels, nicer interior, etc., that the Maverick does not.

When the Ford catches up on things like the screen (which is a big deal for me), ride comfort, power (I'd like to see the 2.7-liter turbo in it, and standard/available equipment, I might look at it.

Just found the Curt #57102 4-way to Dual-Function 4-way/7-way WITH BACK BEEPER BUILT IN on the Curt site.

From the Curt instruction sheet:

Using 12 gauge (minimum) wire and butt-connectors, connect the remaining wires to the appropriate functions as listed below.

Yellow - Auxiliary or back-up lights
Blue - Electric brakes
Black - Positive power (+) with appropriate inline fuse

Confirm proper function with a test light or by using a properly functioning trailer. Secure any loose wires by using cable ties or equivalent product.

I successfully installed the Curt hitch and wiring harness. Installed harness prior to hitch. Routed easier than if hitch was in place. Either way works.

Used jack stands to hold the hitch while bolting the two parallel bolts. Torquing the bolts on the muffler side was an exercise in frustration and patience. My larger torque wrench went to 200ft/lb and smaller goes to 80ft/lb. Would have liked to use larger one since it has a more accurate at 68ft/lbs but couldn't fit it into the tight space.

I bought plastic split loom from Home Depot to put around the 4 wires on Curt Harness since they are separate wires and may need extra protection. Looks cleaner.

The Curt harness 4pin plug is not fitting the holder (Curt 58300) and is not fitting the hole in the mount. Do I need to shave the little plastic fins off the plug to get it to insert into holder? Currently using plug cap to keep it in place.

So, I bit the bullet and bought a Santa Cruz Ltd yesterday. (Had to swallow hard at paying so much over MSRP, but we are living in strange times...)

Dealership is installing an OEM hitch - negotiated down from an absurd quote of over $900 down to $600, so it was at least in the neighborhood of what the Subaru dealership would've charged to have it added on the Ascent.

My question for those who already have a hitch in place is, what's the height from the ground of the hitch receiver tube? I'm pretty sure I will need another ball mount with a longer rise than what I have for my Frontier (about 15" to the bottom of the tube)

I believe it is 11 inches. I purchased a 4 inch raised receiver.

That looks exactly like mine does but the 4-pin connector is definitely being held in place by 58300. If I recall from looking at it you have to force the connector into the hole. Of course I can't say how hard that had to be forced because someone else installed it for me. Good luck.

Thoughts on if the rubbery supports for the muffler are really tight and difficult to get off? A screwdriver was not enough for mine, very tight trying to pop over the ends.
The exhaust Hanger rubber bushings on mine were also very tight. The back ones were do-able with screwdriver but others were tough. I ended up using a large pliers against the metal bar tip and back of rubber and forced the extruded end of metal bar into the bushing. I then pulled and used screwdriver to remove. If all else fails you can get a cheap exhaust Hanger removal tool on Amazon or at an auto parts store.

Sometimes it can help to use spray silicon as a lubricant for rubber bushings like that.

If I order the hitch directly from U-Haul and then the 7pin Kia Telluride harness, is there anything else I should need? Any other brackets/adapters?

Just want to make sure I can hit it all in one go and be done with it.

As soon as a Santa Cruz is available with a 7 pin and brake control input avaialble as a factory option or dealer installed accessory... I will be using it to tow my 1700BH Winnebago.

The local Hyundai dealer has quoted a trade on on my MB in the picture.

Hoping the Cruz will be up to the task.

My 17' Winnie is 3100lbs dry and has trailer brakes. Add battery, propane, water and gear, it will have a combined 3700lbs (trailer scale weighed) to lug around.

We had planned to tow the Winnie with an Ascent (5000lb rated), but plans abruptly changed so we need to sell the Benz to get a vehicle that can tow.
We are also hoping to tow a trailer (max loaded weight of 3500lbs)....having trouble find a weight distribution rated hitch for the Cruz we have ordered, nor can I find any specs on the factory hitch (specifically whether or not it is rated for weight distribution.......anyone know anything further on this?
